Our weekly series on Children’s Liturgy has lesson plans and activity suggestions for use with young people who are on the path to Christ Each week, Catechists will find readings and Psalm responses, complemented by prayer, reflection, FAITH discussion questions, and activities. Please feel free to use them as you wish The lessons are created by Adorer-theologians using the lens of the spirituality of St Maria de Mattias, which also embraces precious blood spirituality FIRST While this is the starting point for the lessons, readers are invited to approach them however the spirit moves you The Church is concerned with the availability and understanding of scripture for children who have their rightful place in the Church. In light of this SCO aims to provide a useful tool in drawing children closer to KIDS the Catholic Faith

UCKED away in the Campsie Fells, some ten miles north of Glasgow, is a little oasis. A large, white-washed building contrasts pleasingly with the vibrant greens of the trees and the hills behind. In the grounds stands an equally pure white chapel, dedicated to Our Lady. Seventeen Tblissfully quiet acres of parkland surround the complex. This is the Schoenstatt shrine and retreat centre in Scotland. Staffed by three sisters, it expresses in sparkling stone the vision of Fr Joseph Kentenich. Although well visited, the names Schoenstatt or Joseph Kentenich are not often heard in common parlance in this country. Yet this is one of the oldest and best established of the new ecclesial movements of the Church, and it has been present in this country since the late 1980s. Let us shine the spotlight on Schoenstatt, then, and explore this important charism that has been part of the Catholic community in Scotland for over 25 years. Unlike many of the movements we have examined to date, Schoenstatt began well before the Second Vatican Council. This gives it the advantage that it has been well-established within the wider structures of the Church. It has also allowed Schoenstatt to escape from the pigeon-holing that has been inflicted on many other movements. As its website states: “We aren’t traditional we aren’t progressive, we are Christians in a modern world. We want to help to build the Church we love. We want to support people in their Faith, their hope and their love.” How does that support present itself? To begin with, Schoenstatt has very specific localities. It is deeply-grounded in place. This links it more with the traditional orders of the Church. It grew up in 1914, when Fr Kentenich was inspired by his special devotion to Our Lady to organise a Sodality.
