Dear Parents, to listen to cutting edge speakers discussing our educational future. Last Friday I became a ‘fashion victim’ for pretty much the first time The conference fed my current obsession with the fantastic ‘Ted in my life when I had the privilege of attending the truly phenomenal Talks’ which you will find on the internet and reference to these were Fairtrade Fashion Show (see photos later in the newsletter). News from the Junior School Dear Parents, I make no apologies for putting our sports news at centre stage in the newsletter this week. With all the nonsense that goes on in professional sport these days, it’s been so refreshing to watch our Junior pupils competing in various fixtures this week. Their determination, sportsmanship and the obvious enjoyment they get from taking part is wonderful to see.

On Monday, our High 5 netball team were involved in a nail-biting match with Bradford and Pyworthy Primary Schools in the Holsworthy High 5s League. Despite taking what looked like a comfortable and unassailable 5-0 lead, Shebbear took their foot off the pedal for a while which certainly let their opponents back in to the match. Fortunately the team did rally again and held out to win 6-4 in the Before half term, Year 5 pupils Lola Frisby-Williams and Eliza end. Our parents who attended the match said they were really impressed with the tremendous teamwork and determined spirit of the boys, who despite hitting the woodwork time and time again, finally found the back of the net and ran out worthy winners by 3-1.

A special mention must go to ‘men of the match’ William Bird and Sebastian Crookes, and to our highly encouraging team captain, Ferdie Frisby-Williams.

Congratulations also to the girls for another battling performance in the netball. However on this occasion West Buckland just got the upper hand and secured a 10-4 win.

Moving away from sport, our Year 3 and 4 pupils were back at Rosemoor Gardens this week, carrying out geology investigations as part of their science work. The children spent a very productive Finally I must congratulate our Year 3 and 4 pupils whose wonderful afternoon in the Education Centre looking at different types of rocks art work (under the guidance of Mrs Appleton-Wahl) has achieved and learning how they are part of our soil system. The afternoon was a little more challenging! With clouds brewing on the horizon, the team set off to navigate their way to Whitebarrow before turning due south towards Great Mis Tor and then back to the minibus at the Four Winds Car Park. The horizontal hail and strong winds did not put the group off course and they arrived at their destination on time with smiling faces (apart from Stanley who forgot his waterproof trousers). Feedback from the Festival From Helen Deakin, Instrumental adjudicator: “I was delighted to return to Shebbear to adjudicate for the North Devon Performing Arts Festival. There was a really positive atmosphere with performances ranging from the very early stages right through to advanced recital playing. The performers very receptive to new ideas and ready to try any suggestions. The Festival was well organised under the excellent direction of Fiona Goode and it was good to see so many parents helping with the many tasks that are necessary in order for the sessions to run smoothly”.
