20 March, 2020: ARRIVES IN FRANCE ' Costa Luminosa arrived to port in Marseille, France, on Thursday, where it was allowed to disembark some guests despite the fact that France is under lockdown. According to the cruise line, 386 Costa Luminosa passengers, including all 233 Americans on board and some Canadian and French passengers, too, disembarked in Marseille. Those who disembarked on Thursday evening were accompanied to flights and transfers organized by the company, and the partial disembarkation continued Friday. The cruise line said the ship has five passengers and two crew members exhibiting "flu-like" symptoms. The most common coronavirus symptoms resemble the flu and include fever, tiredness and dry cough. 20 March, 2020: TASMANIAN WOMAN ON RUBY PRINCESS CRUISE SHIP CONFIRMED TO HAVE CORONAVIRUS A TASMANIAN woman on board a cruise ship that docked in on Thursday has tested positive for coronavirus. Health authorities on Friday revealed the woman was one of four confirmed cases of the virus — three passengers and one crew member — on board the Ruby Princess which had arrived in Sydney from and was carrying about 2700 people. The woman was one of 54 Tasmanians on board the vessel. She is being managed by Health. Another passenger who was on board the vessel has been admitted to hospital in Tasmania with respiratory symptoms and will be tested for coronavirus. 19 March, 2020: CORONAVIRUS: SOME CRUISE SHIPS STILL STUCK AT SEA, SCRAMBLING TO FIND PORTS AND GET PASSENGERS HOME While many major cruise operators are idling their fleets in response to the coronavirus pandemic, some ships are still at sea or trying to find a port as they deal with fears that passengers or crew may have become infected with COVID-19. Some ships, such as Fred. Olsen Cruises' Braemar, have passengers aboard who either tested positive for COVID-19 or have coronavirus-related symptoms. Others, like Celebrity Cruises' Eclipse, have no reported cases, yet are being turned away from ports overseas. "This is a highly fluid situation, with numbers changing by the hour as cruise ships around the world are completing their voyages," Bari Golin-Blaugrund, senior director of strategic communications at Cruise Lines International Association, the industry's leading trade organization, told USA TODAY. 19 March, 2020: CARNIVAL SPIRIT CREW MEMBERS TO BE SEND HOME Following the increased number of travel restrictions put in place around the world and the uncertainty related to the COVID-19 Carnival Cruise Line has decided to send all non-essential Carnival Spirit team members home. The disembarkation of the Carnival Spirit crew members will start on March 21, in Sydney the company said in a letter sent to the shipboard employees. All debarking team members will receive 30 days pay or through end of the crew contract, whichever comes first. Carnival Cruise Line sent two letters to the Carnival Spirit crew, the first on March 18, and the second letter on March 19 which was correction and clarification about the itineraries in Canada and Alaska this spring. Following the recent developments, some of the crew expressed their concerns what will happen with their jobs. EXTENDS OFFER TO USE SHIPS AS HOSPITALS Carnival Corporation has issued an official press release confirming its ships are available to take pressure of land-based healthcare options globally. The company said that governments and health authorities should consider using cruise ships as temporary healthcare facilities to treat non-COVID-19 patients, freeing up additional space and expanding capacity in land-based hospitals to treat cases of COVID-19, the company said. Update: TRUMP SAYS CRUISE SHIPS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE AS FLOATING CORONAVIRUS HOSPITALS Moments ago, Trump said he has spoken with the chairman of a cruise company about the ships potentially helping with the coronavirus response. “One of the things that happened this morning, I spoke with Micky Arison at Carnival Cruise Lines, and he’s going to make ships available so in addition to the big medical ships,” Trump told reporters. 19 March, 2020: BAHAMAS PARADISE CEO CONFIRMS GOVERNMENT CHARTER TALKS Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line CEO Oneil Khosa has confirmed discussions with U.S. authorities on potential ship charters, he told Cruise Industry News. “We have also been asked about the availability of our ships,” said Khosa. “We have told the government we will make them available.” Bahamas Paradise has two vessels, the Grand Celebration and , which had offered two-night cruises from Palm Beach until operations were paused last week. Ships could be used for temporary housing due to the coronavirus outbreak, while other sources have suggested the concept of surge hospital capacity aboard a cruise vessel. Two giant cruise ships berthed in the River Thames are on stand-by to be used as floating hospitals, Mail Online can reveal. 19 March, 2020: CMV PULLS OFF AT SEA PASSENGER TRANSFER BETWEEN SHIPS Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) saw two of its ships, the Columbus and , meet some 12 nautical miles off the coast of Phuket, Thailand to undertake a unique passenger transfer and repatriation operation involving 239 passengers. Despite representations and last-ditch mercy pleas to the Thai Authorities, the Port of Phuket remained closed to cruise ships along with all other ports in Southeast Asia and the wider Indian sub-continent rendering an air repatriation not an option, the company said. 19 March, 2020: COVID-19: HURTIGRUTEN SUSPENDS CRUISE OPERATIONS Expedition cruise line Hurtigruten has announced the suspension of its cruise operations due to the Covid- 19 pandemic. The operations along the coast of Norway will be suspended until 19 April, while the Expedition cruises will be suspended until 28 April. 19 March, 2020: CRUISE PASSENGERS ABANDON SHIP VIA LIFEBOATS TO GET BACK HOME Nearly 200 Australians passengers from a cruise ship (CMV Columbus) which was in Phuket abandoned the vessel on lifeboats to join another vessel so they could go back home. As cruise lines continue to work on getting their vessel back to port safely after suspending operations passengers on a ship operated by Cruise & Maritime Voyages took the quickest way to get back home option! According to the news in Australia, passengers who lived in Australia were given the option to remain onboard the Columbus cruise ship as it sails back to the UK or abandons ship on lifeboats to get back to Australia which is much closer. Apparently, a total of 178 guests disembarked the CMV operated vessel on lifeboats as the ship was near the island of Phuket, Thailand. passengers aboard the Costa Luminosa cruise ship are recorded as sick as the ship nears France in hopes of docking there Thursday, according to ship logs obtained by the Miami Herald. The cruise ship, owned by Miami-based Carnival Corporation, has left three people diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, in two countries — Puerto Rico and the Cayman Islands — since it departed Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 24. The cruise was originally supposed to end in Venice, , on March 25 but is now scheduled to dock in Marseilles on Thursday after bypassing several ports.

Passengers and crew members on board say they are nervous about what will happen when they arrive in France. President Emanuel Macron announced a 15-day lockdown of the country on Tuesday prohibiting all nonessential outings. At least 24 crew members on board the ship are classified as sick and are isolated, according to ship logs obtained by the Herald, and at least 50 passengers are classified as sick, or are roommates of passengers who are classified as sick.
