Coaches Association Services Pending For Former Football Player Services were pending at press time for former Texas A&I football player Jorge Rodriguez, who passed away last week at a Houston hospital. Rodriguez, 51, was a 6-6, 300- pound offensive lineman for the Javelinas in 1986-89 and during that period the Javelinas compiled a 38-8 record, won two Lone Star Conference titles, reached the NCAA Division II playoffs twice and advanced into the national semifinals in 1988. He was an All-LSC honoree as a junior and senior. Rodriguez played high school football at Houston Lee and he and his family were living in Jorge Rodriguez Corpus Christi.

Javelina Hall of Famer John Randle, defensive lineman for the Javelina football team in 1988 and 1989, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010, and became the third Javelina to be inducted. The Javelinas are one of the few schools with as many as three in the Hall. Eugene Upshaw and Darrell Green are the other two. Randle, from Hearne, was an All- American for the Javelinas and signed as a free agent with the Minne- sota Vikings after his collegiate career. He was an All-Pro honoree and lives in the Minneapolis area. He is also a member of the Hall of Fame, NCAA Division II Hall of Fame and Javelina Hall of Fame. The 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame enshirement ceremony will be held Aug. 4 in Canton, Ohio.
