Kansas City University – Joplin Campus

Sigma Sigma Phi: Delta Chapter 2020 : Farber-McIntire Campus

• KCU first opened in 1916 with one campus in Kansas City, MO • After years of planning a second campus was opened in Joplin, MO in 2017 with an inaugural class of 152 students – This was the first to open in in nearly 50 years – The goal of the Joplin campus is to address the need for physicians in the southwest Missouri region Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, there was no induction ceremony for the class of 2020. These members will hopefully be inducted with the class of 2021 in the spring. However, this is a picture from 2019’s induction ceremony. Executive Board

Once this is established, we would like to offer our mentorship and serve as a panel to offer them advice for medical school. – Host middle school honor students: • In the past, each SSP member was matched with one or two 8th grade honor students from a local middle school to mentor for a “Doctor for a Day” event. We helped them tour the school and showed them our equipment. We hope this will be an activity in the spring semester. SSP members with middle school honor students, 2019 Membership Involvement

Future Membership Involvement

• Building Bridges Supply and Toy Drive – Hopefully in spring semester, SSP members will continue to volunteer with Building Bridges. One aspect of this organization that is of particular interest to our club is the children’s program, which focuses on character development and skill building. One way we plan to support this program is to organize a school-wide supply and toy drive. • Middle school end of the year celebration: – As an incentive for students to excel in school, SSP will be hosting an end of the year celebration for middle school students that reach certain academic marks set forth by their school. SSP will invite these students to the KCU-Joplin campus for a tour of the school and to participate in interactive activities with SSP members. Thank you!
