Packing Cleverly

Pick your clothing and personal effects carefully. Decant liquid soaps and shampoos into smaller travel containers with tight lids. If you're hiking in or out of a partial trip, pack lightly -- its your back. Once on the boat the weight of your gear isn't critical but the bulk of it is. You'll be issued a waterproof bag for all of your clothing at the orientation meeting (full and upper trips) or on the river after arriving at Phantom Ranch (lower trip). The guides will demonstrate how to pack and seal the bag. A second bag containing your sleeping gear will already be loaded on the boats and will be available at the first night's camp. These bags hold approximately the equivalent of a paper ; fortunately clothing and sleeping bags compress significantly.

Sleeping Gear

Contents: Lightweight with cloth liner Vinyl covered foam pad Waterproof 5x7 tarp Waterproof containers

To eliminate the need for hiking your sleeping gear in or out of the Canyon, Outdoors Unlimited provides each passenger with a sleeping gear unit. Two-person tents are also available. We recommend that you use a lightweight nylon daypack for your personal gear. Please DO NOT bring pack frames or hardshell suitcases on your trip.

All passengers will be provided with sleeping gear, eating utensils, cup and plate.
