Fact Sheet Junction upgrade

To keep the railway running smoothly and safely, we periodically need to repair and replace track and other infrastructure. We need to replace the track and points at East Junction, between and Castle Cary stations. What's involved? The points at this junction are being upgraded between the Easter weekend and June. Working with a crane, an engineering train and road rail vehicles, we will cut, lift and remove the old points and track before laying new track stones (ballast) and installing, welding and stressing the new track. Machines will pack and compact the track stones (tamping). Compounds and access points Our compound near will be our main base. Our workers will park their vehicles there. The Parish Council is kindly allowing some parking next to the village hall. We will also be When is it happening? using our smaller site near .
