 Integrate IWT with Coastal Shipping and other modes

 Target passenger / Cruise Tourism on waterways by encouraging private sector

 Focussing on infrastructure and service gaps

 Introduction of e-initiatives

 Development of Vessel building, Ship Repair and Hybrid Engine.  Regional Connectivity o Vessel Demand o Cruise demand for both Coastal and River Opportunities in IWT

 Construction of Shallow draft cargo  Private sector participation in and passenger vessels. The vessels are Terminal Management. Russian Firms to be procured by Private players / may consider participating in the bidding Shipping companies independently. process. Following terminals are to be given for O&M in FY 20-21.  Catamaran and environment friendly  MMT (), hybrid vessels. (), () and Gaighat Terminal () on  Construction of Side floaters for NW-1. reduction of Vessel draft.  Pandu and Terminal on NW-2.  Karimganj & Badarpur on NW-16..  Ship repair facilities proposed at  9 small terminals on NW-3 (Kerala). Sahibganj & on NW-1 and  Holistic development of waterway Jogighopa & Pandu on NW-2 which can be explored for development in collaboration with an Indian Partner.

 Smart Hydrography development  Cooperation in areas of imparting training  Development of smart vessel tracking and skill development for management of system, auto pilotage, safety and inland navigable channels may be explored navigation framework (AIS/ ENC/ Beacon/ Buoys etc.) PROJECT PRE-REQUISITE ACTIONS (ENVIRONMENT)

 Obtain environmental clearances for the projects

 CRZ clearances, wherever applicable

 Wildlife and Forest clearances  Pollution Control Board clearances SOPs AND GUIDELINES ISSUES

 SOP for River Conservancy work  SOP for movement of vessels registered under Inland Vessel Act on National Waterways  Guidelines for movement of Over-Dimensional Cargo in National Waterways and Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route  Guidelines for Chartering of IWAI owned vessels or leased vessels  Crisis Management Plan (CMP) for Disaster management. GANGETIC DOLPHINS AND ITS ACTION PLAN

 Estimated about 2304.0 ( conservative estimate). Dolphins are present in between Varanasi and Farakka.

 Highest number being at Patna – 81.0, lowest number found at Ghazipur being Zero- not seen.

KEY FINDINGS: VESSEL NOISE AND DOLPHIN BEHAVIOUR

• Behavioral changes may be relatively minor and/or brief, have the potential to affect important behaviors such as foraging, breeding and resting. Behavioral changes for Dolphin above 177 d(B) re 1 μPa respectively (Southall et al. (2007). • Study by Kelkar (2008) into the habitat use and distribution of the River Dolphin in the Vikramshila Gangetic River Dolphins suggested that boat noise in the order of 160 dB re 1 μPa at 1 m, with the received levels of over 120 dB re 1 μPa at 1 m up to 500 m is not displacing dolphins. However, it is not conclusively showing that such noise levels do not impact Dolphin behavior. TURTLE SANCTUARY AND ITS ACTION PLAN

Wildlife Clearance for Kashi Turtle Wildlife Sanctuary from NBWL Wildlife clearance for the movement of vessels through Kashi Turtle Wildlife Sanctuary, Varanasi: The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL), MoEF&CC recommended for movement and plying of inland vessels through the Turtle Wildlife Sanctuary, district Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh vide letter dated 12th June 2017 of UP State Board for Wildlife.

 Recommendations of National Wildlife Board also have been complied and IWAI has released Rs. 8,47,97,387 (5% of the cost of MMT Varanasi) for setting up a Trust for Turtle Wildlife Sanctuary management on 7.03.2018 as per the mitigation measures prescribed by the Wild Life Institute of India and conditions prescribed by the State Chief Wildlife Warden and further Rs. 98.50 lakh towards prescribed conditions.

 Govt. of UP vide Notification No. 336/81-4-2020-823/2008 TC dated 17.03.2020 has de-notified the existing sanctuary and notified the 30 km stretch along both sides of Ganga River falling in the districts of Bhadohi, Prayagraj and Mirzapur as the location of the new Kachhua Wildlife Sanctuary.
