Participating indigenous games

Indigenous Games KGATI • A form of roe jumping game in which several girls and boys jump over either one or simultaneously; • If there is no rope, stockings or strips of cloth can be tied together; • Two ropes should not be more than 5m long; • Two players swing the rope and other players jump over the rope when it reaches the lowest point. KHO – KHO • Is a running game which comprises of two teams with 9 players each. There is a running team and a chasing team. • At the start of the game one player from the running team is chosen to be the runner and one will be the chaser from the chasing team. MORABARABA • A board game made of wood with 24 junctions (circles or holes) • This can also be drawn on the ground or on paper • This game is played by two players at a time and each player gets 12 tokens or stones known as ‘cows’. The tokens should be in different colours or shapes to help differentiate which players is using tokens JUKSKEI • A target game where players use skeets which can be made of wood, rubber, composite or synthetic material which should be between 300mm and 460mm in length and should not weigh more than 1.8 kg for seniors or less and 1.1 kg for juniors. A team of Juskei consists of four players one of whom is a leader

Safety and Security a) Categorization

The SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS have been categorized as a low risk event by the National Commissioner of the SAPS. b) Registration

Only registered participants will be allowed to compete at the CHAMPIONSHIP; and the participants will be allocated numbers upon registration, amongst others. c) Accreditation

Only accredited persons will be allowed to have access to designated areas relative to the stadiums and venues (including its precincts) relative to the CHAMPIONSHIPS; and accredited persons will be allocated with standardized accreditation cards containing their names, photos, ID, a specific access and colour code, amongst others. d) Lost and Found

Each venue has a lost and found area; the venue manager will assist provinces with lost items (Only if these have been found and submitted). Since most activities will be taking place at University of Pretoria, Lost and found will be located at the nerve centre (Athletics stadium) e) Entertainment

• Access to swimming pools areas (apart from those being utilized for the CHAMPIONSHIPS) is prohibited during the CHAMPIONSHIPS as well as after hours; • Access to night clubs or any other nightlife activity during the CHAMPIONSHIPS and after hours shall be strictly prohibited; and • Access to any of the dam areas adjacent to the ABSA stadium and surrounds shall be forbidden given the possibility that the water in these dams might be communicated which may expose persons to health risks. f) Accommodation

Accommodation provided to participants during the CHAMPIONSHIPS must at times:

• Be kept clean and neat; not be damaged; and be left in exactly the same condition as was allocated to these participants initially • Any damages to the property or/and accommodation shall be recovered from the participant(s) who stayed at the specific allocated accommodation directly; and liquor, drugs or prohibited substances are strictly prohibited at any of the accommodation premises relative to the CHAMPIONSHIPS.

g) Private Security

Each stadium or venue will have security registered with PSIRA; and all participants and spectators participating in the CHAMPIONSHIPS must all time comply and adhere to any legal instruction, advice and guidance of any registered private security officers performing his or her duties any of the stadiums or venues utilized during the CHANPIONSHIPS. No learners should enter the dams in the premises of the University of Pretoria. h) Private Security personnel will deny access to any person/s to the stadium or venue that is Perceived to be; • Drunk and dishonesty; • Aggressive or argumentative; • Untidy or filthy; • Unwilling to pay the entrance fee, if applicable and • Who does not have necessary entrance ticket and/ or stamp or accreditation? i) Public Liability

Public liability for the amount of Twenty Five Million (R25, 000.000.00) has been activated for the CHAMPIONSHIPS and includes both opening and closing ceremonies, amongst others. j) Refreshments

Vendors will be invited; Health certificate for food must be produced and submitted to SRSA; and no liquor, drugs or prohibited substances may be sold or provided at the CHAMPIONSHIPS. k) Emergency and evacuation

• In the event of an emergency evacuation, all participants and spectators at a stadium or venue associated with the CHAMPIONSHIPS shall strictly adhere

to any legal instruction from an LOC member, private security official or disaster management official. • Each venue has a designated assembly point in case of an evacuation. Stakeholders should familiarize themselves with assembly points and adhere to evacuation procedures. l) Prohibited items

The following items will not be permitted at the CHAMPIONSHIPS:

• Firearms; • Knives and Edged weapons; • Any items that may be used as a weapon (clubs, bats, sticks and etc); • Cooler boxes or bags; • Alcoholic beverages; • Narcotics and other illegal substances; • Ambush Marketing items; • Bottles, cans, plastic bottles of any kind including squeezer bottles; • Fireworks; • Sharp metal objects; • Explosives; • Teargas, mace or similar airborne chemical agents; • Items which could cause injury e.g sharp pointed umbrella longer than 40cm; and • Banners or flags with vulgar, racist, sexist, discriminatory or offensive content.

Transport Services

1. Arrival of Provinces a) Provinces upon arrival in Pretoria will head straight to the respective accommodation venues (Accommodation venues mentioned above) for check- inn. b) Provinces will depart to the opening ceremony as per the expected time allocated to each province. The breakdown of each Province expected arrival time is attached. c) Provinces arriving after 15h00 hours will head straight to the opening ceremony where parking is allocated to them. d) Provinces will be escorted by the Tshwane Metro Police from their respective accommodation to the opening and back. Provinces must adhere to allocated time. e) All 160 buses from different provinces will be expected to use W.F Nkomo formerly Church Street. At the Tshwane Events Centre where they are expected to park. f) Assistance at the event centre parking will be provided by the Transport Commission and Safety Commission (See contact on LOC list). All participants will be directed to Hall J by Volunteers and Security organized by Tshwane Events Centre Management.

2. Technical Officials a) Upon arrival, they will go with Provinces to the respective accommodation venues, Transport will pick them up from the venues to their respective Technical Officials accommodation. b) This will be done by means of shuttling between venues with Transport provided by the Transport commission. c) All Technical Officials who didn’t do accreditation will be picked up at the University of Pretoria, after the accreditation, they will go to their respective accommodation venues. d) The Transport commissions will on daily basis transport all Technical Officials from the accommodation to their respective playing venues and back to where they’re accommodated from 11 th December until the 15 th December 2015. e) Transport will daily depart from accommodation venues at 07:30 to various playing Venues and return at 16:00.

3. Opening Ceremony The opening Ceremony is on the 10 th December 2015 at Tshwane Events Centre in Pretoria West starting at 18:00 until 21:00.

4. Playing Venues and Participants a) Buses transporting participants at University of Pretoria are expected to park at demarcated parking are next to the Swimming Pool. b) Rietondale: No parking available. Participants will be dropped off and collected after competition daily. c) Gezina: Participants will be dropped off and collected after competition daily. d) Hillcrest: Participants will be dropped off and collected after competition daily. e) Snt Albans: Parking available. f) Cornwall Hill College: Parking available. g) Groenkloof: Parking available. h) Pretoria West: Parking at Pilditch Stadium. i) Pretoria North: Parking available. j) Mamelodi: Parking available. k) TUT Main Campus: Parking available next to Swimming Pool.

5. Closing Ceremony a) Closing Ceremony will be held at Tshwane Events Centre on the 15 th December 2015 at 18:00. Provinces are requested to arrive two before the Opening Ceremony for rehearsal.

6. Parking at the accommodation venues a) TUT Main Campus: Parking is available on site for all Transport e.g. Buses, cars and kombis b) TUT off Campus: Parking is available on site for all Transport e.g. Buses, cars and kombis c) University of Pretoria, Hatfield & hillcrest - Parking available next to the Swimming pool. d) University of Pretoria, Groenkloof Campus – Parking available on site. e) Hotels- Parking available at all selected hotels.

7. Medical Services a) SRSA shall provide medical service to all participants daily during the championship. Provincial medical team personnel shall be responsible for medical for their respective provinces at night throughout the championship. b) It is mendatory that provinces provide medical questionnairs to nerve centre with the rest of the documents.
