2017 CARBOHYDRATE-ACTIVE

WELCOME

At NZYTech we work passionately to achieve our goals. Our mission is to provide the scientific and industrial communities with a wide range of first class high quality products & services at very competitive prices. Our strong commitment to science and innovation is instrumental to develop, manufacture and market solutions that simplify, accelerate and improve life sciences research. Independently or in collaboration with research groups in both academia and industry, we continuously look at innovative ways to create novel solutions in our main areas of expertise. In particular, we are dedicated to serve the communities working in the fields of Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology, Recombinant Protein Production and Food and Feed Analysis, through the provision of high quality genes, enzymes and test kits.

In this 2017 catalogue, you will find an enlarged portfolio of well characterized, highly purified (in general >95% pure) Carbohydrate-Active enZymes (CAZymes), Carbohydrate-Binding Modules (CBMs) and Mini-Cellulosomes. CAZymes and CBMs are organized following the sequence- based CAZy classification conceived and developed by Bernard Henrissat (www.cazy.org). CAZy classification presently organizes enzymes in Glycoside , Carbohydrate Esterases, Polysaccharide and Auxiliar Activities and, similarly, CAZymes provided by NZYTech are organized to follow the same organization. NZYTech aims to serve the scientific community with a diversity of activities to help promoting the advancement of research related with carbohydrate bioengineering. Enzymes are available in mg quantities for 98 €/vial or 276 € per 3 vials (for exact quantities please check tables in the catalogue). Enzymes may also be requested in bulk quantity (up to the gram scale) and will be manufactured to the same specifications.

NZYTech is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company. We are continuosly improving the excellence of our operational and quality systems.

NZYTech, the pleasure to serve!

These enzymes have the ability not only to deconstruct plant biomass, through the release of lignin from carbohydrates, but also to synthesize a broad range of novel bioactive components for use in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.

33 Lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases Lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are a recently discovered class of enzymes capable of oxidizing recalcitrant polysaccharides, such as cellulose and chitin. Members of the previously described families CBM33 and family GH61 are in fact LPMOs. These enzymes are attracting considerable attention owing to their potential use in biomass conversion, notably in the production of biofuels.

Laccases Laccases are copper-containing oxidase enzymes that are found in many plants, fungi, and microorganisms. Laccases act on phenols and similar molecules, performing a one-electron oxidation of substrate with the four- electron reduction of molecular oxygen to water. It is proposed that laccases play a role in the formation of lignin by promoting the oxidative coupling of monolignols, a family of naturally occurring phenols.

35 Carbohydrate-Binding Modules (CBMs) Carbohydrate-binding modules (CBMs) are protein domains found in carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes), although some CBMs are found in cellulosomal scaffoldin proteins. CBMs were previously known as cellulose- binding domains. CBMs can recognise both crystalline and amorphous cellulose forms and different hemicelluloses and pectin. CBMs are the most common non-catalytic modules associated with enzymes active in plant cell-wall hydrolysis. CBMs are classified into numerous families, based on amino acid sequence similarity in the CAZy database (www.cazy.org).

MINI-CELLULOSSOMES

41 Mini-Cellulossomes It is well established that cellulosomes are elaborate "Lego"-like structures that perform the efficient hydrolysis of plant cell wall recalcitrant polysaccharides. Previous research on designer cellulosomes has shown that cellulosomal cellulases act together in an enhanced synergistic manner in the degradation of cellulosic substrates. At NZYTech, we can integrate our current knowledge on the mechanisms of cellulosome assembly and protein function to produce highly efficient multi-enzyme complexes for all biological processes that might benefit from enzyme proximity. In this catalogue, NZYTech has made available three novel mini-cellulosome combinations but can cooperate with different partners to produce tailor made novel mini-cellulosomes combinations.
