Overview The Commissioner of Public Works is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the Public Works department, which includes the following program areas: Infrastructure Planning and Policy, Water Wastewater Systems and Services, Water Wastewater Treatment, Engineering and Construction, Waste Management and Road Operations, and IMSQA Integrated Management Systems and Quality. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Commissioner is a member of the Region’s Management Committee, committed to delivering quality, cost effective programs and customer service. In this key position, the Commissioner of Public Works advises the CAO, Regional Council and its committees on all related matters. As a leader in the organization, the Commissioner is committed to continuous improvement and establishing current and long-range plans to assist the Region in effectively meeting growing service and program demands. Establishing excellent working relationships with the other Departments within the Region and with other partners including Halton’s local municipalities, conservation authorities and the Province is critical.

Required Education, Skills & Experience • A Masters level University Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent • Licensed by the Professional Engineers of Ontario is preferred • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible work experience in Public Works, together with ten years of experience in a senior leadership capacity, with the ability to demonstrate a record of successful program management, financial strategy and people management. • Comprehensive knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act and all its Regulations. • Comprehensive knowledge of municipal finance, budget principles and practices.

The successful candidate will have excellent presentation and communication skills and the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances. They will operate within a highly ethical environment and will be accountable for going the extra mile, listening to customers, and creatively meeting the needs of all stakeholders.
