July 2017 Chapter Legislative Recap for the 40th Annual ESOP Conference Company and professional members of the Minnesota / Dakotas Chapter attended numerous legislative meetings at the 40th Annual ESOP Conference in Washington, D.C., May 11 and 12. Visits were arranged where employee owners met with legislators or their respective aides to gain additional support for ESOPs. A special thank you to the legislative staff and aides at all of the MN, ND and SD congressional and senatorial offices for coordinating and participating in the meetings. We appreciate your continued support and would be interested in hosting a company visit in your district! Today, 14 more representatives have joined in co-sponsoring HR 2092. Thank you Co-Sponsors: Erik Paulsen, Kristi Noem, and Kevin Cramer. 2020 Final Public Subsidy Payments
CAMPAIGN FINANCE AND PUBLIC DISCLOSURE BOARD RELEASES FINAL PUBLIC SUBSIDY PAYMENT AMOUNTS FOR 2020 ELECTION During 2020 the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board distributed $2,131,887 in public subsidy payments to 349 candidates running for state senate or state representative. The 349 candidates who received a public subsidy payment represent 78% of the 449 legislative candidates who were on the general election ballot. A list of qualifying candidates and the payments they received is attached. Of the 504 candidates who filed for state legislative office this year, 401 (79.3%) signed voluntary agreements to abide by spending limits and other conditions required to be eligible for public subsidy payments for their campaigns. To qualify for public subsidy a candidate must: • be opposed at either the primary or general election, • appear on the general election ballot, • sign and file a public subsidy agreement with the Board to abide by applicable campaign expenditure limits, and • raise a specified amount in contributions from individuals eligible to vote in Minnesota counting only the first $50 from each donor. Money for the public subsidy program comes from the state general fund. A portion of public subsidy money is allocated to specific parties and districts based on taxpayer checkoffs on income and property tax returns. By office and party, the total public subsidy payments totaled: DFL RPM State Senate $670,054 $393,772 House of Representatives $663,589 $404,471 Total $1,333,643 $798,243 DFL = Democratic Farmer Labor RPM = Republican Party of Minnesota Note: No other major or minor party candidates qualified for a public subsidy payment in 2020. -

Chauvin, Kueng, Lane, and Thao Court File No. 27-CR-20-12646, 27-CR-20-12953, 27-CR—20-12951, 27-CR-20-12646 Dear Judge Cahill: I made no contribution of any kind to the recent New York Times article (dated 2/10/21) in which the reporter asserts that Derek Chauvin was willing to plead guilty to third degree murder in state court in exchange for an agreement of non-prosecution for federal criminal charges. No one on our prosecution team contributed to the New York Times report of an alleged plea deal by Chauvin or the alleged involvement of the then-US. Attorney General. Defense counsel’s allegations are simply not true. We are mindful of our responsibilities under Rules 3.8 and 3.3 of the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct. I conducted a quick internet search of news articles about this alleged plea negotiation. It turns out that these alleged plea negotiations are hardly news at all. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. St. Paul, Minnesota 55155 Dear Madam President: I have received, approved, signed, and deposited in the Office of the Secretary of State Chapter 293, Senate File 1770, the Timberjay bill, with the exception of the line item veto listed below: • Page 1, lines 1.15-1.17: "Receipts credited to the account are appropriated to the legislative auditor for the purpose of oversight relating to security of data stored and transmitted by state systems." I have great respect for the Legislative Auditor and the important work of his office to promote accountability among state agencies, improve how state government operates, and ensure we are good stewards of taxpayer dollars. It is with those same principles in mind that I regretfully line item veto this open and standing appropriation. It is not fiscally responsible to appropriate an ongoing amount of money without articulating the cost to perform the new duties outlined in the law. By next session, the Department of Public Safety will be better able to estimate the revenue generated to the data security account, and the Legislative Auditor will have time to estimate the cost to provide oversight relating to the security of data stored by all state systems. In addition, I am concerned that the Legislature did not include an appropriation to MN.IT Services. -

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE Welcome to the first Child Care Aware Legislative Update of the 2021 legislative session. This narrative update, along with our Bill Tracker, will be posted each Tuesday (reflecting activity through the previous Friday) on the Child Care Aware of Minnesota website. Each week we will provide a brief overview of bills that have been introduced, action that has been taken at the committee level or on the floor, and any other pertinent news related to early care and education and school-age care issues. If you have additions to recommend to the bill tracker, please contact Ann McCully. OVERVIEW The Legislature convened on Tuesday, January 5 and is off to a quick start. There is no question that the state’s response to the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic is the primary issue facing legislators as they begin this session. This also a budget year to set the state’s budget for July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2023, and while the economic picture has improved since the initial budget forecast last spring, there is still a projected budget deficit in the coming years, leading to some tough decisions ahead. More information about the budget projections can be found on the State Office of Management and Budget website. COMMITTEE STRUCTURE A new, two-year legislative session brings new members, new committees, and new committee assignments. While early care and education issues may show up in many places during the process, below are a few of the key committees that we will be watching. We encourage you to follow them as well! IAPAC focuses exclusively on domestic policy issues such as civil rights and immigration, and it encourages Americans of Iranian descent to actively participate in civic affairs. Mission • To support and promote the election of candidates for federal, state and local office, regardless of party affiliation, who are attuned to the domestic needs and issues of the Iranian American community • To support and promote Iranian American participation in civic affairs Issue Advocacy Civil Liberties: Balancing Civil Liberties and National Security in the Post-9/11 Era. Protecting our security and ensuring that the government does not infringe upon basic constitutional rights have long been important issues for civil libertarians and certain ethnic communities. IAPAC believes that our government must take the appropriate measures to protect our nation from further atrocities, but that it can do so without eliminating basic constitutional rights. Immigration: Immigration reform that is driven by proper national security concerns and remedies based on a fair and accurate appraisal of deficiencies in the immigration process, and not simply on national origin. Specifically, IAPAC advocates for a fair and measured execution of federal regulations governing the issuance of non-immigrant and immigrant visas for Iranian nationals. Congressional Scorecard The IAPAC 2005-2006 Congressional Scorecard rates members of Congress on votes and other positions taken in the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 109th Congress, which affect the domestic needs of the Iranian American community.
