Islay Golf Club Gents Open 5th / 6th Sept and Ladies Open 5th Sept.

Thank you for entering Golf Club’s Gents and Ladies Opens. This note provides information on arrangements and measures we all have to follow on the course and in the hotel to meet Scottish Government and Scottish Golf requirements during Phase 3 of COVID 19 planning. A risk assessment has been undertaken by the Club’s appointed COVID officer and arrangements have been set in accordance with this assessment.

Everyone wants the weekend to be enjoyable and run smoothly but equally important is the wellbeing of all players, guests and staff. If you are asked in the hotel to follow a particular route or sit at a particular table, it’s for very good reason and your cooperation would be greatly appreciated. If you are showing any symptoms of COVID 19 or been in recent contact with someone who has tested positive please do not turn up. Contact the Secretary at [email protected] who will arrange a refund of your entry fee.

If you are planning to play a practice round on Friday 4th September, which is included in your entry fee, please book in advance with the Machrie 01496 302310.

The Gents open has once again been generously sponsored by Distillery and Ladies Open by LoganAir

Competition Arrangements. Arrival – please check in at Machrie Reception / Golf Shop with your playing partners and pick up your scorecards. We won’t have a starter but please arrive at least 15 mins before your tee time. To reduce gatherings please don’t arrive too early and it should be one game at the first tee at any one time. You will need to follow the entry / exit and one-way systems within the Machrie hotel at all times. This will be clearly marked. Inside changing facilities are limited use, i.e. no more than 3 people in the changing room at any time.

Catering - Hot rolls and tea / coffee will be available beside the Golf shop. For track and trace, and in keeping with government legislations, anyone wishing to dine or just drink needs to reserve a table beforehand. You will be asked if you want to pre-order drinks / food and reserve a table. The Open menu follows in this note. Lunch / dinner needs to be booked in advance with the Machrie.

Practice facilities – driving range, Wee course, pitching / putting green will be available. Check / book beforehand with the Machrie Golf shop if you want to hit balls before you play. The range will be limited to 8 players maximum at any one time.

After your round – head to the 1891 Lounge located beside the driving range. Sign and mark your own card with one of your playing partners score also recorded on your card. We can’t exchange and countersign cards. Read out your scores to the Match Secretary who will be at the door of 1891 Lounge and will record your scores. Leave cards as directed.

If you ordered drinks / food before your round you will be shown to your table by Machrie staff. You can order more drinks as required from your table. To meet social distancing requirements, it won’t be possible to order at the bar or stand and drink in groups within the hotel. Again, please adhere to the routing signs within the hotel.

On the Course Islay Golf Club rules will apply. The Kintra burn (2nd) and Machrie burn (11th) are out of bounds. Relief can be taken from animal scrapes on the course subject to agreement with your playing partners. Ground Under Repair will be clearly marked. If it’s not marked, then it’s not GUR. You can take relief from a sprinkler head if it interferes with your stance, ball or line to the hole but only if your ball is within 2 club lengths of the sprinkler head.

A couple of suggestions to keep the pace of play up. We’ve had good growing conditions for rough and it’s very thick in places. Be realistic, you might be better off with a couple of penalty shots and if you are looking, remember it’s three minutes. Can you also consider standing to the side when you reach your drives on 11 and let the game behind drive up before your second shots. Thank you.

Social distancing – keep it simple, don’t touch anything you shouldn’t including; flagsticks, marker poles, tee markers or your playing partners. There will be no bunker rakes but please make an effort to leave the bunker in a reasonable condition. If you find yourself in an un- raked lie in the bunker you can take a preferred lie within one metre within the bunker.

You are entirely permitted to repair all pitch marks and replace all divots.
