This report responds to the City of ’s inquiry about services provided to residents by tax exempt institutions.

Process Summary

Community Relations collected data on activities, programs, volunteer efforts, and services that Tufts students, faculty, and staff have provided to benefit the City of Boston and/or its residents. For the purpose of this survey, we concentrated on activities that occurred during calendar year 2016. This includes financial aid. The total is $9,577,588.20.

We solicited information from each of our schools. The data outlined on the following pages represents the results collected. Please note that we did not put a dollar value on the use of space on campus even though many other organizations were charged a rental fee. Also, this report does not include salaries paid to residents of the City of Boston (560 employees; $39 million).

A Tisch Scholar interned at Alternatives for Community and Environment (ACE) in the fall of 2016. Based in Roxbury, ACE empowers communities of color and low-income communities in Massachusetts to eradicate Jonathan M. In spring of 2016, a Scholar worked with Haley House in Boston’s South End. Haley House is dedicated to combating homelessness by providing fresh meals, housing, clothing, Jonathan M. In the spring and fall of 2016, a Scholar to support Mission Hill K-8 School’s process of designing Mission Hill Art Science High School based on community needs and ideas. The Scholar learned Jonathan M. In the spring and fall of 2016, a Scholar worked for MassVOTE, a statewide nonprofit that works to register, educate, and mobilize voters, with a focus on historically underrepresented communities in Massachusetts. In the spring and fall of 2016, a Scholar worked with St. Stephens Youth Program in Boston’s South End- a youth program that serves local kids Jonathan M. In the spring of 2016, a Scholar worked at the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission (HPC) as the Market Performance Intern. The HPC’s role is to improve the implementation and quality of health care across the Commonwealth, while driving down costs through increased transparency and Jonathan M. Tisch innovation.
