Homecoming traditions, theme connects students with alumni, University's history

Story by Eric Lagatta | Reporter

espiie coming from a hometown more than three hours away, freshman Sarah Riggs is not the | first one in her family to attend the University. Both her mom and uncle are alumni of the University and still come back for homecoming every year. This longstanding tradition in her family stems from what Riggs said makes the University great. "People are really helpful and the energy on campus is really fun," Riggs said. Riggs may be three hours away from her hometown, but said the University is more than a suitable substitute. "It's homey," she said. 'It feels like home." One of the best weeks of the year for students like Riggs to celebrate these aspects of the University is Homecoming Week. "We always refer to it as the most spirited week on campus," said senior Jessica Alt, organization and spon- sorship chair for the homecoming student steering committee.
