HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 81 By Hargett
A RESOLUTION to honor and commend David Kustoff on his exemplary service as Chairman of the Shelby County Republican Party.
WHEREAS, the Tennessee General Assembly is pleased to specially recognize and commend citizens of our state who admirably serve Tennessee and their communities by working to elect good people to public office; and
WHEREAS, David Kustoff, who has served as Chairman of the Shelby County
Republican Party for four highly productive years, is clearly one such outstanding person; and
WHEREAS, an excellent and popular student, Mr. Kustoff received his Bachelor of
Business Administration degree from Memphis State University, his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and continued his studies with the Fund for
American Studies at Georgetown University; and
WHEREAS, his long and fruitful service to the Republican Party includes diligent service as a member of the Committee to Re-elect Richard C. Hackett, as Chairman of the Shelby
County Sundquist Solution, a member of the Sundquist for Governor Finance Committee (1994 and 1998), a member of the Shelby County Committee to Elect Fred Thompson, as the District
4 At-Large member of the Shelby County Republican Party Steering Committee, as member of the Primary Board representing the Republican Party (1991), as Co-Chairman of the Shelby
County Republican Neighborhood Meeting group, as member of the Ed Bryant for Congress

-1- Finance Committee (1994, 1996, and 1998), as Co-Chairman of the Shelby County Dole for
President campaign, and as District 3 member of the Tennessee Republican Party State
Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, he has also served his party and Tennessee by his service as an
Alternative Delegate to the 1992 and 1996 Republican National Conventions and as a valued member of the Don Sundquist Transition Team; and
WHEREAS, his noble service to Shelby County was also strongly evidenced as a member of the Jimmy Moore for Circuit Court Clerk Transition Team, as Blitz Chairman of the
Committee to Elect Jayne Creson (1994) and as Co-Manager of the Campaign to Elect Bill
Gibbons County Commissioner; and
WHEREAS, in each of these important positions, David Kustoff has received considerable praise for his expertise, dedication, and desire to do the best job possible; and
WHEREAS, a true representative of the volunteer spirit of the Volunteer State, Mr.
Kustoff has generously lent his time and energy to numerous community activities including service as a member of the St. Jude Liberty Bowl Board of Directors, as Chapter Advisor to
Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, as a member of the prestigious 100 Club, as a member of the
Memphis-Shelby County Fire Museum Board of Directors, as a member of the Memphis Area
Neighborhood Watch Board of Directors, and as a member of the Memphis Kiwanis Club, serving on their Board of Directors and as a member of the Program and Membership
Committee; and
WHEREAS, his fine service has been recognized by selection as one of the Top People
Under 40 by the Memphis Business Journal and by being the recipient of the Shelby County
Ronald Reagan Award; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting that we pause in our deliberations to honor David Kustoff on the occasion of his retirement as Chairman of the Shelby County Republican Party; now, therefore,

FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, That we honor and commend David Kustoff and wish him well in his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
