desplaines.org OPTION #1 - Weekly Bagged Leaf Collection The collection of residential leaves is part of an ongoing yard waste program that the City’s contracted garbage hauler, Republic Services, provides April through mid- December. Please see the April calendar page for more information. OPTION #2 - Leaf Drop Off at Public Works Facility The City’s Public Works Department, located at 1111 Joseph J. Schwab (Campground) Road, will accept leaves from Monday, October 19 through Friday, December 18. Hours for drop-off are between 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. Only leaves can be accepted during this time. Residents can empty their containers in the designated area conveniently located on the north side of the Public Works facility. Yard waste such as grass clippings, branches, etc. should be placed curbside for yard waste disposal. To maintain the proper flow of stormwater, roadside ditches, gutters, and sewers must remain clear of leaves. OPTION #3 - City’s Bulk Curbside Collection leaf collection. The City’s residential Bulk Curbside Leaf Collection is separate from Republic Services’ weekly refuse pick-up. The City of Des Plaines Community and Economic Development Department (CED) is here to help with your questions Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Permits are required for a number of different projects to protect the health, safety, and welfare of our residents. You can always view our guidelines and general permit information online at desplaines.org/BuildingPermits. Pouring oil, anti-freeze, paint, fertilizer, or pesticides into storm sewers pollutes the water, destroys plants, and endangers wildlife. Please do your part to keep our streams and storm drains Flood Insurance in the City of Des Plaines free of pollutants. Report dumping to the Code Enforcement Office As a result of the City’s participation in the National Flood Insurance at 847.391.5380. Program (NFIP), flood insurance is available for any property in Des Plaines. If your property is located within the regulatory floodplain and you have a mortgage from a federally regulated or insured lender, flood insurance will be required. There are three types of coverage: structural, contents, and sewer backup coverage. If you have a flood insurance policy, check if you have contents and sewer backup coverage.

This is a free service that could save you time and money, as well as reduce future flood damages to your property.
