Sound the Alarm award recognition

An award was presented to Tech. Sgt. Katie Speer, 72nd Force Support Squadron executive assistant, by Richard Unda, American Red Cross regional director, for work done by volunteers from Tinker Air Force Base in support of the Sound the Alarm initiative May 5. Volunteers from Tinker Air Force Base were paired with members from com- munity organizations, businesses and personnel from the Oklahoma City Fire Department for Sound the Alarm, a part of the Red Cross’ Home Fire Campaign. Volunteers were armed with maps, step ladders, tools and smoke alarms and were given sections of at-risk neighborhoods to knock on doors, replace batteries of existing alarms or install new ones and provide fi re and safety education to community members. Approximately 118 Airmen from Tinker volunteered at the event and 599 smoke alarms were installed across at-risk Oklahoma City neighborhoods. (U.S. Air Force photo/Greg L. Davis)

The Commander’s Action Line serves as a direct link for Tinker personnel to bring questions or concerns to the 72nd Air Base Wing commander’s attention, in the case that a timely resolution of issues through facility management or unit chain of command doesn’t occur. Items of interest to the installation overall will be published in the Tinker Take Off to effect positive change across Tinker and lead to improvements in safety, working conditions, quality of life and a better understand- ing of base programs and processes. Below are some helpful telephone numbers to assist you in trying to resolve an issue. To submit an Action Line, send an email directly to [email protected] and a response should be received in a timely manner. Col. Kenyon K. Bell 72nd Air Base Wing Commander

As one of seven Air Force libraries to receive permission for the upgrades, the $217,000 self-help project led by the 72nd Force Support Squadron was able to give them new carpeting, new shelving and furniture, computer carrels and an overall new layout, making the library as a whole feel more bright and open. The library features a collection of more than 20,000 adult, teen and children’s books, as well as multimedia including CDs, DVDs and audio books. There are 18 computers that are free to use, with high-speed internet and Microsoft Office software. CLEP, DANTES and CSAF study and reading material are available, along with two quiet rooms and a children’s reading area. Mentoring Viewpoints: Do I need a mentor?

Don Kendrick AFMC Senior Financial Advisor

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio — Do I need a mentor? Well, the short answer is, you already have one, or more, whether you know it or not! We all have a boss, and that boss should be providing mentorship. But, that’s not the primary focus of this message. Have you ever wondered how to get funded for that training class you’ve been wanting to take, or the best route to that next reassignment or promotion? Maybe you have a difficult situation to deal with. Whether you are happy remaining in your present positon or are looking for that next step in your career, you are probably asking yourself, ‘what if,’ or, ‘who should I talk to’ questions. Well, the best people to provide relevant information and explain options are those of us who have been through the process. Ask us! Air Force Widow vows to bring awareness to invisible wounds Maj. Cathleen Snow 920th Rescue Wing Public Affairs

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — Air Force veteran Stacey Pavenski, 46, of Palm Bay, Florida, has post traumatic stress disorder, but she didn’t get it from serving in combat. It came from her husband’s combat struggles that drove him to take his own life in their bedroom, Sept. 18, 2017, while she was in the kitchen. He was 45. That fateful day has led her on a journey to bring awareness to PTSD and traumatic brain injury disorders that contributes to the 22 veterans a day who take their own lives. During PTSD awareness month, she has joined forces with several non-profit organizations that provide assistance to those suffering with PTSD and has vowed to share her story and get the resources out there to help others. Wearing shorts and a T-shirt with the words ‘Not All Wounds are Visible’ broadcasting her new mantra, she shares glimpses into her life as a military spouse and living with PTSD. She met her husband, Master Sgt. With 10 years serving on active duty and another 10 serving in the Air Force Reserve as an aerial gunner, Master Sgt.
