As we begin the 2020- 21 school year, vast changes have occurred due to Covid-19. The student experience is going to be different whether you chose for your child to attend school physically or virtually. Our teachers have worked very diligently to provide quality instruction regardless of your child’s learning delivery choice. Students must follow all safety guidelines while they are on campus. Masks are a requirement as we all look out to protect one another. I wear my mask to protect you, while you wear a mask to protect me will be a common theme. I want to personally thank all of you for your support as we all will have to work together to provide the safest learning environment for all of our students. I hope that at some point soon we will all be able to cheer in the stands at one of our sporting events, listen to a concert, watch a play in our auditorium, or shake hands and have a conversation at an Open House or Curriculum Night. Our students are taking on a new role of being a student during a pandemic, yet they have continued to persevere. Our students continue to follow the protocols set forth by the county with grace and as an administrative team, we could not be more proud. Covid-19 has had an impact on our school, but our students continue to follow all safety precautions that are asked of them. Our students have been wearing their masks in class and while on campus, washing their hands or using hand sanitizer frequently, and trying to social distance to the best of their ability in the classroom and at lunch. As a parent of a high school student and as a principal, I do understand that there is always a risk that my child or your child could be exposed to a student or adult who tests positive for Covid-19. If that is the case, we may have to quarantine a student for up to 14 days depending if the child could have been exposed to the virus by being within 6 feet of the individual who tested positive for a timeframe of 15 minutes or longer.

We serve nearly 45,000 students from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. We truly believe education is not only the shared responsibility of the school and the home, but the community as well. This is why we want to share the many successes of the past year with you, in hopes that you will continue to support our mission of providing quality educational programs for our students. One exciting event we most recently celebrated was our second annual iSTEM Competition which brought together students from across the district for a day filled with science, technology, engineering, and math activities. It was great to see the students showcasing their critical thinking skills and having fun at the same time. This year we witnessed our students take home top honors in many other academic programs, including the Laws of Life Essay Contest and our Scholar Bowls. Also, who can forget all of the talented students who participated in our many fine arts programs? It was a joy to see the students perform so passionately in our middle and high school honors chorus, orchestra, and band concerts. I am extremely proud of our high schools when it comes to school grades and graduation rates.
