ROVER MOTORSPORT DRIVER EDUCATION AND MOTORKHANA CHAMPIONSHIP 2007 AUSTRALIAN

In January 2007, we are conducting a CAMS Junior Development Program (JDP) for 13,000 Scouts attending the Australian Jamboree in Elmore, . celebrates its centenary in 2007, so the Jamboree is shaping to be one of the biggest ever held.

Over eight days, Scouts aged between 11 and 15 will have the opportunity to drive a motorcar. Young people will acquire skills and develop an understanding of safety, car control and responsible vehicle management. The program works on the premise that letting young drivers develop an ability to cope with a motorcar prior to the civil driving license minimum age makes them safer public road users. They will learn driving skills by combining a fun experience with proper supervision and instruction. Young people with motorcars will always start their experience by determining the limits of both their ability and their motorcar.

The program is also about the personal development of young people, and introduces them to the extended family environment that exists in Scouts. The Jamboree environment offers great opportunities for young people to improve their confidence and develop skills such as networking, teamwork and leadership. The objective of the program is to promote Rover Scouts to the younger Scouts and increase our membership. The Scouts will attend a lecture at the start of the session, experience first hand a drive in a motorcar, view static displays of the Rover Mudbash competition cars and have the opportunity to find out more about Rovering. In addition, we are seeking to have our lectures presented by prominent motor racing identities. Rover Scout Motorsport is seeking 50 volunteers to become driver instructors for the Jamboree.
