Sesame Street Veteran and Retailer Amazon.Com Receive Top Honors at Women in Toys 11Th Annual Awards Dinner Sesame Street Veteran and Retailer Amazon.com Receive Top Honors at Women in Toys 11th Annual Awards Dinner Ann Kearns, Vice President, Global Toys, Sesame Street Honored for Lifetime Achievement; Eva Lorenz Honored for Amazon.com, Retailer of the Year February 2, 2015 – Recognizing the best and brightest women in the toy industry today, Women in Toys (WIT) will honor Ann Kearns (left), Vice President, Global Toys, Sesame Workshop, with a Lifetime Achievement Award, and Eva Lorenz, Amazon.com, Inc., General Manager for Toys & Games, with Retailer of the Year at this year’s WIT 11th Annual Wonder Women in Toys, Licensing and Entertainment Dinner Sunday, February 15, coinciding with the 112th International Toy Fair in New York City. Before “interactive” even became a buzzword, Ms. Kearns championed a gold standard for toys that encouraged engaging and delightful experiences for young children. Her expertise in developing quality Sesame Street products have helped children around the world grow smarter, stronger and kinder. “We are so thrilled to present this much-deserved Lifetime Achievement award to Ann Kearns,” said Ashley Mady, president of Brandberry and co-chair of the Wonder Woman Dinner. “An inspiration to all of us, Ann has flourished in an industry that is largely male-dominated, and stands out because of her passion and dedication to creating toys that spark imagination and a lifelong love of learning.” “For more than four decades, Ann has worked for Sesame Street, working her way up from a college intern in the Workshop’s Outreach department, through several successive management positions to her current role of overseeing licensing and product development strategy for the Workshop’s master toy licensee, Hasbro as well as its other toy licensees,” said Maura Regan, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Global Consumer Products for Sesame Workshop. “She has helped Sesame Street become one of the world’s most beloved children’s brands and has cemented her place in the industry as a leader, visionary and innovator. We are incredibly proud of her and happy to call her our colleague and friend.” Ms. Kearns said, “I am truly honored to receive this award. My work at Sesame Workshop through the years has been rewarding in its own right, especially knowing that our efforts are helping extend the Workshop’s message to so many children around the world.” Among the many accomplishments throughout her tenure, Ms. Kearns played a key role in the team that saw Tickle Me Elmo become a worldwide phenomenon in 1996. The toy garnered top honors from the National Association of Parenting Publications Awards, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio, Parents Magazine and Family Fun Magazine. Ten years later, T.M.X. (Tickle Me Extreme) was released and won Toy of the Year from the Toy Industry Association’s annual Toy of the Year Awards. In addition to her accomplishments in the toy category, in 1998, at a time when dual licensing wasn’t very common, Ms. Kearns took a new approach and licensed both American Greetings and Gibson Greetings for the card and party goods category in an effort to establish the broadest retail placement for the Sesame Street brand. It was a successful strategy and American Greetings remains a key licensing partner of the Workshop today. Ms. Kearns is also a recipient of the 2010 Wonder Women of Toys Award in the Licensor category. Page 2 WIT Lifetime Achievement/Retailer of the Year Award Eva Lorenz serves as the General Manager for Amazon Toys & Games and is responsible for merchandising, marketing, customer service and operations. Before joining Amazon, Eva spent 12 years in buying and merchandising leadership roles at Nordstrom. “With the click of a button, a toy is on your doorstep the next day,” said Mady. “Amazon.com has changed the toy-buying playing field and set a top-notch standard in customer service, merchandising and digital marketing, that continues to shape consumer retail, and we are excited to honor Eva and Amazon.com with the WIT Retailer of the Year Award.” # # # ABOUT Women In Toys The Mission of Women in Toys is to provide a professional networking base for women working within the Toy, Licensing and Entertainment Industries and to acknowledge and promote the achievements of these women. On one hand, with every street now lined with Starbucks, Duane Reade and shiny glass luxury condos, I miss the gritty, dirty, weird, vibe of New York in the 70s and 80s. GLOBAL GIRLS’ EDUCATION Big Dreams Sparked by a Spirited Girl Muppet Globally, an estimated 510 million women grow up unable to read and write – nearly twice the rate of adult illiteracy as men.1 To counter this disparity in countries around the world, there’s Sesame Street. Local adaptations of Sesame Street are opening minds and doors for eager young learners, encouraging girls to dream big and gain the skills they need to succeed in school and life. We know these educational efforts yield benefits far beyond girls’ prospects. They produce a ripple effect that advances entire families and communities. Increased economic productivity, reduced poverty, and lowered infant mortality rates are just a few of the powerful outcomes of educating girls. “ Maybe I’ll be a police officer… maybe a journalist… maybe an astronaut!” Our approach is at work in India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Afghanistan, and many other developing countries where educational and professional opportunities for women are limited. — Khokha Afghanistan BAGHCH-E-SIMSIM Bangladesh SISIMPUR Brazil VILA SÉSAMO China BIG BIRD LOOKS AT THE WORLD Colombia PLAZA SÉSAMO Egypt ALAM SIMSIM India GALLI GALLI SIM SIM United States Indonesia JALAN SESAMA Israel RECHOV SUMSUM Mexico PLAZA SÉSAMO Nigeria SESAME SQUARE Northern Ireland SESAME TREE West Bank / Gaza SHARA’A SIMSIM South Africa TAKALANI SESAME Tanzania KILIMANI SESAME GLOBAL GIRLS’ EDUCATION loves about school: having lunch with friends, Watched by millions of children across the Our Approach playing sports, and, of course, learning new country, Baghch-e-Simsim shows real-life girls things every day. in situations that have the power to change Around the world, local versions of Sesame gender attitudes.

Los Angeles Times: Elmo's tickled red Page 1 of 5 http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-elmo22oct22,1,784212,full.story?coll=la-headlines- business&ctrack=1&cset=true Elmo's tickled red The latest animatronic version of the "Sesame Street" character shows signs of becoming this year's hottest holiday toy. By Abigail Goldman Times Staff Writer October 22, 2006 Bright red as ever, Tickle Me Elmo is back on retailers' shelves this holiday season, moving like never before. This year, he bowls over in a fit of giggles, kicks his feet and turns himself over to pound an arm on the floor as he guffaws. That done, he stands back up again. Elmo is also being peddled like never before. Mattel Inc. kept the doll's tricks under tight wraps until its unveiling in September. Most retailers placed their orders without having seen the doll itself. And Elmo is selling like crazy. Parents are clearing out retailers' stocks — in many cases in one day — creating an early holiday sensation and the first real must-have toy since the late 1990s. "We had thousands of people prepay to reserve an Elmo that really was sight unseen," said Ernie Speranza, the chief marketing officer of KB Toys, a chain based in Pittsfield, Mass. "It was the best one-day product launch [we've] seen in 30 years." Now, thanks in part to the laughing red creature, industry analysts predict the hottest season in five years for the $22-billion U.S. toy business. Some are already calling it the "Elmo Effect." "The customers are calling the stores every day to find out if they got any in stock," said Scott McCall, Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s chief toy merchant.
