INTRODUCTION 1.1 PURPOSE This document contains the specification for the National Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) basic rate user-network interface between the 5ESS® switch and the standard terminals. This interface includes the physical layer, the data link layer, and the network layer for the basic rate interface (BRI). Terminal manufacturers who design customer premises equipment (CPE) to support the complete set of services, or a subset of services, offered by the 5ESS switch National ISDN BRI must use this document as their source for the interface requirements. These services may be offered for basic voice, supplementary voice, circuit-switched data, or packet-switched
