OffshoreMarine January – February 2014 27 Lessons to impart

Addressing over 200 Keppelites, Mr Tong distilled his wisdom into five important takeaways:

1. Do not be afraid to speak up – it is alright to disagree. However, once a decision has been made, everyone in the team should be aligned in supporting the decision. 2. Be fair in treating others and invest time and effort in cultivating relationships with stakeholders such as customers, vendors, unions and subcontractors. 3. We can achieve anything if we set our minds to it. 4. It is important to recognise good efforts and reward these accordingly. Keppel O&M’s innovative spirit and growing numbers of female engineers today are a result of the company’s recognition of such efforts and contributions. 5. Do not be discouraged in the face of obstacles or challenges. Continue to work hard and eventually success will be achieved.
