• Occidental has moved its Early Decision II deadline forward one month, to February 1. This extra month will afford students the opportunity to have their full first term of senior year considered as part of the application. It will also give students and their families added time to research Occidental before identifying it as their first choice. More information is available here. • Earlier this spring, we joined hundreds of our peers with a commitment to a test optional policy for first-year and transfer applications. • Occidental opted for a fully virtual fall semester, but we are hopeful to bring back students to our residential community for the spring semester. The Mark E. Reed scholarship program is beginning its 2021 selection season! Enclosed is an information sheet that explains our process. We are excited to announce that we will be awarding eight $3,000 scholarships to students in our Washington operating area. An electronic copy of the application can be obtained by visiting our company website at www.greendiamond.com, under Charitable Giving. The application should be printed and signed by the applicant before mailing it to our office. Please review the rules and instructions with each applicant as no exceptions are made in fairness to all applicants. Items that need to be stressed are 1) Send only requested information - scholarship notebooks are not allowed, 2) All transcripts should be certified and sealed by the school and 3) It is preferred that all applications be typewritten. Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused many students to be in remote learning environments at this time, transcripts may be mailed directly to the Secretary of the Board. Scholarship Notebooks for North Mason Foundation Scholarships Scholarship Notebook Packets for 2021 will be posted on the NMHS website were sent to you via email on January 3, 2021. You can get a copy of the notebook packet as a guideline in the front foyer of the high school, pick up during school hours 8am-3:30 pm. Also, there has been a copy emailed to all seniors who are on the list to receive the senior bulletin. Scholarship notebook covers can be purchased at any office store. The notebook has to be no larger than a 1-inch black binder (yes it has to be a black binder 1-inch-thick back, no larger. If cost of purchasing the notebook is a problem, please contact Mr. Mosby, [email protected] or 360-277-2211. Scholarship notebooks will be due in March so start your notebook NOW!
North Mason Foundation Scholarship List
North Mason Foundation Scholarships must be applied for in the scholarship booklet in the North Mason High School front foyer during school hours from 8am-3:30 pm, Mon-Fri. Most of these Foundation scholarships require the scholarship notebook completion and submission to apply. Some scholarships require an additional application. Those applications are in the foyer as well next to the scholarship sign up booklet. You must read the description of the scholarship, which has been provided for you below, decide if you would like to apply, if so, then go to the foyer and sign up in the booklet next to the scholarship. If there is an additional application required, you need to fill that our and include it in your scholarship notebook when you submit it in March. The Foundation encourages all seniors to fill out a scholarship notebook, since it is a document that could get you Foundation scholarship monies for simply having a completed notebook. The scholarship notebook is due at the high school on March 19th, 2021 at 3pm, no later. Late submissions after that date and time will not be accepted, no Exceptions!!

DAVID F. GUIDI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Amount: $500 Scholarship Notebook David Guidi inspired others through sports and leadership while attending North Mason High School. He graduated in 1973, earned his teaching degree, and then settled down to work at the Belfair QFC for 30 years. His hard work, willingness to help others and smile that greeted everyone were an inspiration to all that knew him. He shared his love for musical theatre, fun facts, and anything Disney with his family, co-workers, friends and customers. He believed, as Walt Disney did, that the most important thing is family. The Guidi family is proud to offer a scholarship to a 2020 North Mason graduate with the desire to further his or her education. Criteria: This scholarship is to be used for tuition at a voc-tech program, community college or a four-year college/university. Write a paragraph of 200 words or less answering the following question: What are your educational and career goals? Who and/or what has inspired you to reach these goals?
EVERGREEN GARDEN CLUB Amount: $500 Scholarship Notebook & Application Criteria: Preference will be given to students whose long-term goals include classes in environmental science, horticulture, plant pathology, landscape design, forest management, water management, agronomy and soils, ecology, city planning and land management and/or related subjects. GRAPEVIEW COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION Amount: One or more up to $6000 Scholarship Notebook & Application The Grapeview Community Association will award one or more scholarships of up to $6000 for the 2019-2020 academic year. Applicants must have attended Grapeview School for a minimum of one year and be graduating from the North Mason or Shelton School Districts. The award may be used at any state or private university, college, technical school or trade school in the United States that is accredited. Award criteria includes academic achievement, financial need, involvement in school and community activities, service, and evidence of work in high school that shows preparation for further education and the student’s career plan. The senior portfolio or scholarship notebook will be used to find evidence for these criteria. This scholarship is also coordinated with the North Mason Scholarship Foundation.
JK’S TREASURE Amount: 2 awards @ $500 Scholarship Notebook Criteria Sheet & Essay Criteria: For students who are involved in community service, leadership, and are in good academic standing, are planning on attending a four-year college or university, community college or vocational school, and have financial need. Qualifying students should have a great sense of respect for different cultures. Essay topic: If you could make a health care system what would it be like?
KIWANIS CLUB OF NM (3) AND TOM KELLY MEMORIAL (1) SCHOLARSHIPS Amount: Minimum of $500 Scholarship Notebook & Essay Financial need for one award, general scholarship (GPA, SAT, ACT scores, etc.) for one award, school activities & community service for one award, and especially this for the Tom Kelly award. All applicants must have all parts of their application complete, especially the Criteria Sheet. If incomplete, it will not be considered. Essay topic: Imagine you are an employer in Mason County. Write a persuasive memo to all your employees about why they should be involved in community service (about 100 words in length)

NORTH MASON YOUTH SOCCER SCHOLARSHIP Amount: $500 Scholarship Notebook & Essay You must have played 2 years of high school soccer. Also, you must have played in any youth program in Washington state. Please provide an essay on what playing soccer has meant to you.
OLYMPIC COLLEGE SCHOLASTIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP Amount: 1-year O.C. tuition (approximately $4500) Scholarship Notebook Each year, Olympic College provides area high schools with one full tuition waiver for a graduating senior who plans to attend O.C. during the upcoming academic year. Applicants must have had at least at 3.0 cumulative GPA.
TAHUYA COMMUNITY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Amount: 1 or more up to $2,000 Scholarship Notebook Applicants must be a resident of the Tahuya community. Criteria includes academic achievement, financial need, involvement in school and community activities particularly willing to help at Tahuya Day or Salmon Bake, service, and evidence of work in high school that shows preparation for further education and the student’s career plan. TED SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Amount: TBD Scholarship Notebook & Application Any senior wrestler graduating from NMHS who satisfactorily completed the last wrestling season. In the even that there is not a senior wrestler, the scholarship will become available to any other graduating NM senior.
TONI M. SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Amount: $1,000-renewable for 4 years Essay & Letter of Recommendation Criteria: For students attending a post graduate institute/program that focuses on an ACADEMIC course of study. Student must demonstrate concern for others and is honest, shows promise that academic achievement is more important than accumulated grade point average, shows financial need. A personal essay on “service” is required, no more than 100 words. TONI M. SMITH CTE SCHOLARSHIP Amount: $2,000-renewable for years Application Criteria: For students who wish to pursue a post graduate course of study that is focused on the “Vocational/Technical” careers. Student must demonstrate concern for others and is hones, shows promise that vocational or technical achievement is more important than accumulated grade point average, shows financial need.
TONI M. SMITH FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Amount: $5,000 minimum Scholarship Notebook & Application Recipients of this scholarship must demonstrate clear financial need, outstanding character and a strong desire to work hard for success in their post-secondary education. The scholarship may be used at both private and public institutions. Academic achievement should be solid with coursework and grades that speak to likely success in college, but applicants do not have to be in the top ranks of their class to be eligible. This scholarship will be renewable at the discretion of the North Mason Scholarship Foundation Board of Directors with the intention of supporting the recipient for up to four years of college.
TONY HANNAN MEMORIAL Amount: TBD Scholarship Notebook For a North Mason graduating senior, preferably interested in pursuing a career which prioritizes manual dexterity (i.e. cosmetology, barbering, auto mechanics, high technology, etc.) Produce evidence of an upstanding moral character or evidence of a full spiritual life (i.e. the applicant may use a letter of reference). Have a 2.0 GPA or higher and write a statement of interest or intent describing his/her desire to pursue vocation-relation employment.
YORK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Amount: TBD Scholarship Notebook & Essay Student must have sufficient academic record to be accepted by an accredited collage, junior college, or technical institute of applicant’s choice. 3.0 GPA or higher, academic honors, club or organizational memberships, awards, achievements and honors will be considered. Include a personal essay stating why you desire the scholarship, your need and general qualifications with any pertinent facts concerning career objectives, any work experience, skills, hobbies, goals, etc.
WASHINGTON STATE FAIR FOUNDATION Amount: Fair Chance Scholarship: $3,000-14 offered Anderson Criminal Justice Scholarship: $5,000 Korum Family Art Scholarship: $2,500/$1,500/$1,000 Criteria: Students only need to submit one application for all scholarships offered online. The Career and Technical Scholarship has just opened for Washington residents planning to go to community or technical college. We encourage you to apply! This scholarship offers $1,500 per quarter in scholarship funding towards certificates, apprenticeships and associate degrees. The scholarship can be used to cover tuition, fees and other indirect costs of attendance like housing, transportation, food and more. The Anderson Criminal Justice Scholarship is awarded to a student in Washington state pursuing a career in the field of criminal justice. Washington residents who are either graduating seniors or returning students/adult learners are applicable for this scholarship. Preference will be given to students pursuing a career in law enforcement. The $5,000 award is payable over two years ($2,500 per year). All funds are paid directly to the recipient’s college or university to be used toward tuition or books. For renewal, the recipient must be a full-time student, continuing in the field of criminal justice.

The Anderson Veterinary School Scholarship is awarded to a student currently in his/her second year of veterinary school at WSU, specifically studying equine care. Applicants must also be currently working, volunteering, or involved in a school-sponsored activity at least 8 hours per month, on average. Prior involvement with the Fair (4H, FFA, etc.) and financial need may be considered, though neither is a requirement. The $3,000 awards are payable over two years ($1,500 each year). Fred Oldfield Scholarship for the Arts
The Fred Oldfield Scholarships for the Arts are awarded to six graduating seniors from Puyallup High School, Rogers High School, Emerald Ridge High School, Sumner High School, Bonney Lake High School, and the Tacoma School of the Arts. Applicants must demonstrate involvement in the study of the arts (music, theater, art, etc.), as well as an intention to pursue a career in the arts. Students are required to have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7. Financial need may be considered, though it is not a requirement. The $1,000 awards are paid directly to the recipient’s college, university or school of the arts to be used toward tuition or books. These scholarships are funded by proceeds generated from the auction of an original Fred Oldfield painting during the Washington State Fair in September.
