Abstract. Ubuntu is an operating system with Linux kernel based on Debian and distributed as free and open-source software. It uses Unity as its default desktop environment, which results in more difficulties of usage for Microsoft Windows users. In this paper, we present a lightweight desktop environment named UKUI based on UbuntuKylin, the official Chinese version of Ubuntu, for Linux distribution. It is designed as a pluggable framework and provides better user experience during human-computer interaction. In order to evaluate the performance of UKUI, a set of testing bench suits were performed on a personal computer. Overall, the results showed that UKUI has better performance compared with Unity. Introduction Linux is a freely available operating system (OS) originated by Linux Torvalds and further developed by thousands of others. Typically, Linux is packaged in a form known as a Linux distribution for both desktop and server use. Some of the most popular mainstream Linux distributions are Red Hat [1], Ubuntu [2], Arch [3], openSUSY [4], Gentoo [5], etc. There are several desktop environments available for nowadays modern Linux distributions, such as XFCE [6], GNOME [7], KDE [8] and LXDE [9]. -

DESCRIPTION OpenVMS is a general purpose, multiuser operating system that runs in both production and development environments. VSI OpenVMS Alpha Version 8.4-2L2 is the latest release of the OpenVMS Alpha computing environment by VMS Software, Inc (VSI). VSI OpenVMS Alpha V8.4-2L2 is compiled to take advantage of architectural features such as byte and word memory reference instructions, and floating-point improvements, which are available only in HPE AlphaServer EV6 or later processors. This optimized release improves performance by taking advantage of faster hardware-based instructions that were previously emulated in software. NOTE: VSI OpenVMS Alpha V8.4-2L2 does not work on, and is not supported on, HPE AlphaServer pre-EV6 systems. OpenVMS Alpha supports HPE’s AlphaServer series computers. OpenVMS software supports industry standards, facilitating application portability and interoperability. OpenVMS provides symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) support for multiprocessing systems. The OpenVMS operating system can be tuned to perform well in a wide variety of environments. This includes combinations of compute-intensive, I/O-intensive, client/server, real-time, and other environments. Actual system performance depends on the type of computer, available physical memory, and the number and type of active disk and tape drives. The OpenVMS operating system has well-integrated networking, distributed computing, client/server, windowing, multi-processing, and authentication capabilities. -

The kernel is the heart of the Unix system and resides in the computer’s memory from the time the computer is turned on and booted until the time it is shut down. The utilities, on the other hand, reside on the computer’s disk and are only brought into memory as requested. Virtually every command you know under the Unix system is classified as a utility; therefore, the program resides on the disk and is brought into memory only when you request that the command be executed. So, for example, when you execute the date command, the Unix system loads the program called date from the computer’s disk into memory and initiates its execution. R e a Overview c t Since the past decade, developers from around the world are working hard to make ReactOS O a reality. Intended to be fully compatible with Windows applications and hardware drivers, ReactOS will finally provide an alternative to people wishing to embrace open source but S remain hindered by the lack of Linux versions for their everyday software or incompatible hardware. ReactOS is an open implementation of the Windows platform, built from the 0 . ground up with an NT-compatible kernel, Win32 subsystem and shell. It ships with its own 3 . version of the familiar Explorer shell, ensuring newcomers will have a familiar and seamless 3 experience. Not only that, ReactOS aims to avoid many common security pitfalls caused by poor planning or implementation in Windows, better protecting users from malicious viruses and attacks. 0.3.3 ReactOS 0.3.3 features a completed kernel rewrite, which vastly increases stability and functionality.
