Mas de Daumas Gassac tasting Friday 29th October 2010 South Kensington £60 6.45pm

Stop Press! This will be the first of an increasing number of exciting tastings at our new purpose built tasting room at the South Kensington branch. And what a way to start.

This most famous of Langedoc estates regularly turns out wines of excellent quality. Largely based on , these are wines of substantial structure in a similar style to St Estephe Bordeaux that can be very long lived indeed. Interestingly the vineyard also has plantings of and , as well as a collection of Italians - , and - and other uncommon varieties.

The first vintage of Mas de Daumas was produced in 1978 under the guidance of the great Bordeaux oenologist Professor Emile Peynaud. Labelled as the ‘Languedoc Chateau Lafite’ by the Gault et Millau soon, this de l’Herault wine has exploded in popularity since it’s inception and according to the estates’ owner/founder Aimé Guibert, needs decades in the cellar to be enjoyed at it’s best.

Tonight we will be hosting wine maker and owner Samuel Guibert, who will take us through a selection of vintages of his main wines, plus a bottle of the special cuvée Emile Peynaud, a sparkling rose and the estate’s ‘Vin de Laurence’ sweet wine:
