Plus500 BRUMBIES RUGBY Established: 1996 BRUMBIES PROGRAM PRINTED BY P: 02 6262 4077 F: 02 6241 4027 E: [email protected] A: Unit 5/37 Dacre Street Mitchell, ACT 2911 Editor: Rian Murphy | Head of Production: Chelsea Wilson | Contributors: Marty Cambridge | Photography: Getty Images, Karen Watson, Lachlan Lawson, Emily Wilson & Jayzie Photography Yeah I think we have 11 debutants if all get on but we’re excited for all those girls to wear the jersey for the first time, and with our returning players, we’re sure they’ll do us proud. There’s a couple who have stood out over preseason. Ella Ryan obviously, she slots into flyhalf and at such a young age she’s impressed massively. Zali as well, another who’s been excellent in preseason and the trials. She’s got huge shoes to fill with Tayla Stanford missing out, and we hope to see Tayla back soon but yeah, so excited to see how they go in their first game. Another great week’s prep. Tough game against the Rebels last Friday so just managed that, focusing on our recovery and review but Tuesday we were back to it and had a big session which kickstarted the prep. Mostly business as usual, everything we’ve done has been with the knowledge we’ve got to shift up the gears a bit this week. 4 There was definitely lots of good things. I though the boy’s execution of our game plan first half was really good. Definitely a lot of pleasing aspects with the performance but there parts that we need to get better, areas we’re traditionality strong in and hold ourselves to a very high standard. So yeah, happy with the start and with the results obviously but certainly not comfortable and not getting ahead of ourselves and know we have to continue to improve. Yeah they’ve lost a few but there’s still a lot of quality in that side. Look at Aaron Smith, still absolutely one of the best players in the game. They’ve got some quality young backs, Hunt at Flyhalf and Ioane outside him. Rob Thomson at 13 another. So they’ll present a different challenge I’m sure, plenty of kicking, not kicking the ball away but actual kicking to attack. They’ll defend a little differently as well but yeah, a different challenge we’re excited about. It’s so important, especially with us only having two cracks at home every win counts and job number one for us is getting into that top three. We were proud of our finish last year, but this season we’re putting that higher expectation on ourselves and we hope to go at least one further and make that Grand-Final. 5 PROUD TO BE OFFICIAL KIT SUPPLIER TO BRUMBIES SPORTSWEAR SPECIALISTS CONTACT US FOR MORE INFORMATION Office 1B, The Precinct, 539 Greenhill Road, Hazelwood Park, SA 5066 T: 08 8364 4920, E: [email protected] FB: oneillssportswearaustralasia IG: oneillssportsau 11 13 © 2018 THE COCA-COLA COMPANY. ‘POWERADE’, ‘ION 4’ AND ‘MOUNTAIN BLAST’ IS A REGISTERED TRADE MARK OF THE COCA-COLA COMPANY. Annual Report 2018 th 138 Annual Report of the Otago Rugby Football Union 1 | P a g e Otago Rugby Football Union Inc. th Notice is hereby given that the 138 Annual General Meeting of the Otago Rugby Football Union Incorporated will be held at Taieri Rugby Football Club, Peter Johnstone Park, Reid Avenue, Mosgiel on Wednesday 27th March 2019, beginning at 7.00pm. Richard Kinley General Manager 2 | P a g e President’s Report This is my third year as President of the ORFU and from an overall perspective of Otago Rugby, this year would clearly be the most satisfying. While there remain a number of challenges in our game right across the board both at provincial and at a national level, there are many positive aspects which we should all enjoy and continue to celebrate. Of the 33 clubs in the province, I managed to visit 28 of them and every one was an absolute pleasure. In addition, the many secondary school games, weight grade fixtures, tournaments, representative fixtures, meetings, prizegivings, sponsors functions and a host of other events, has made this season a most enjoyable experience. One aspect that I would like to comment on is the secondary school rugby scene. Richard Kinley and I took the opportunity to meet with the Chairman of the Canterbury Secondary Schools Rugby Council during a visit to Christchurch. While I will not go into the details of the meeting, it became very evident that the current systems we have in place for administering and managing the game at this level in Otago are very sound.
