The home game snaps a four-year stretch of beginning the season on the road, which was the longest span in program history. Minnesota was also the only major conference team to open on the road four straight years from MINNESOTA COACHES 2009-12. Since 1993, Minnesota has started the season 10 times at home. The Gophers are 8-2 in those games, posting Jerry Kill (SL) Head Coach wins in 2008, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2000, 1999, 1998 and 1995. Tracy Claeys (PB) Defensive Coordinator Matt Limegrover (PB) Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Minnesota’s game against UNLV on Aug. 29 is the earliest that the Gophers have ever started a season. The con - Bill Miller (PB) Linebackers/Assistant Head Coach 2 test will be Minnesota’s eighth August game ever. The previous seven games were played on either Aug. 30 (3-2 Brian Anderson (SL) Running Backs record, including last year’s triple-overtime win at UNLV) or 31 (2-0 record). The last time the Gophers played a Jeff Phelps (SL) Defensive Line home game in August was 2008, when Minnesota beat Coach Kill’s Northern Illinois squad. Pat Poore (SL) Wide Receivers The Gophers were 3-9 in Kill's first season in 2011, but reached a bowl game and finished 6-7 in 2012 giving him a 9-16 Rob Reeves (SL) Tight Ends/H-Backs 3 record as head coach at Minnesota. Kill's reputation as a turnaround artist has continued with the Gophers, as Minnesota Jay Sawvel (SL) Secondary/Special Teams doubled its win total from 2011 to 2012 in Kill's second year. Last season, Kill led the Gophers to a bowl game for the first Jim Zebrowski (PB) Quarterbacks time since 2009. Kill's rebuilding of the Minnesota program is also taking place in the classroom. The Gophers recorded a 994 Academic Progress Rate (APR) for the 2011-12 season, the first under Kill's leadership. The 994 score is the highest single-sea - Gameday Locations: SL - Sideline; PB - Press Box son score that the Minnesota football team has ever recorded and only 10 teams have tied or beaten a score of 994 since the NCAA has made single-season scores available. Gopher Football 2008 Coaching Staff [ 105 ] Minnesota Football 2008 Gopher Football 2008 Coaching Staff Tim head coach • seBconrd seeawson ster n just one year as the head football coach at the University of Minnesota, Tim Brewster has combined his unique brand of positive energy with a well-earned reputation as one of the nation’s top recruiters to rejuvenate the hopes of Go - I pher Nation. Brewster, who is in his second year at the helm of the program after being named Minnesota’s 26th head football coach on Jan. 17, 2007, has never been afraid to work hard or think big. That was proven out this past February, when Brewster and his staff signed a consensus top-25 recruiting class that some experts even rated among the nation’s top 15. The significance of this accomplishment would be difficult to overstate at one the nation’s traditional recruiting powers let alone at Minnesota, where the average Rivals ranking for the Gophers’ previous six recruiting classes was 54th. The renewed emphasis on recruiting may be the most visible phase of Brewster’s plan to help Minnesota football make history again, but it’s just one building block of a blueprint he developed while helping Mack Brown turn North Carolina from ACC doormat into a national power and rebuild Texas into one of the country’s elite programs. Brewster came to Minnesota after spending the previous five years as an assistant coach in the National Football League, including the 2005 and 2006 seasons as the tight ends coach of the Denver Broncos.

  • Broncos Release CB Drayton Florence; Caleb Hanie Stays
Broncos release CB Drayton Florence; Caleb Hanie stays Mike Klis The Denver Post August 31, 2012 Go ahead, dwell on how Drayton Florence, Ryan Harris, Jeremiah Johnson, Adam Weber, Sealver Siliga and Mike Mohamed didn't make it. The highlight to the Broncos cutting down to their 53-man roster Friday? How about for the first time, there is a quarterback named Peyton Manning on it. "He made it," said John Elway, the Broncos' executive vice president of football operations. "Surprise." Manning is the one player among the 53 who allows the Broncos to realistically believe that after not winning the Super Bowl since Elway retired as a player following the 1998 season, they can reach the NFL's ultimate game at the end of the 2012 season. In a perverse twist, Manning is a Bronco because he missed all of last season with a neck injury. The missed season forced the Indianapolis Colts to give up on him and provide the Broncos the opportunity to land the NFL's only four-time MVP. In his final preseason tune-up, Manning was 10 of 12 with two touchdowns and a 148.6 passer rating. Now it's up to Manning and the Broncos to take it from there. "The expectations of what we heard from the doctors and where he would be at this point in time, if anything he's exceed that," Elway said. "So is it surprising to me? No. Through all the hype we've been through since Peyton has been here, it's time now to start playing football, which is the fun part." To reach their 53-man limit Friday, the Broncos had to make 22 roster moves.
