For 11 months of the year, Cupcake is a bright and bubbly bundle of joy. But come December 1st, all that changes - because Cupcake is ‘The Elf Who Was Scared of Christmas’. Come and join Figgy in an original Christmas story as he tries to help Cupcake overcome her fear of Christmas. Using the power of imagination, and with a little help from you, will he be able to remind her of the importance and magic of Christmas? And, in helping Cupcake, will Figgy solve some of his own Christmassy problems? This December, join Figgy and Cupcake on a journey of self-discovery, friendship and Christmas cheer, ending in an an all-singing, all-dancing musical celebration featuring some of your favourite Christmas songs. ‘The Elf Who Was Scared of Christmas’ runs from Tuesday 8th - Wednesday 23rd December. Unbelievably, their career paths haven’t crossed since! They now live in the same village with their families and decided to come together during these unprecedented times to create an original theatre show for young people that could be performed under the current restrictions. With two children each, they really wanted to make something for small people and their families to ensure that Christmas this year is as magical as ever. Gina’s West End leading roles include: Miss Honey in ‘Matilda The Musical’, Magnolia Hawks in ‘Show Boat’, Glinda in ‘Wicked’, Christine Daaé in ‘The Phantom Of The Opera’ and Cosette in ‘Les Misérables’. Neil is best known for playing Ryan Malloy in ‘EastEnders’. His West End leading roles include: Philip Stuckey in ‘Pretty Woman’, Lord Farquaad in ‘Shrek The Musical’, Chief Weasel in ‘The Wind In The Willows’ and Captain Von Trapp in ‘The Sound Of Music’.     24 May 2021 SOUTH PACIFIC: GINA BECK AND ALEX YOUNG TO SHARE THE ROLE OF NELLIE FORBUSH AT CHICHESTER FESTIVAL THEATRE Following the happy news that Gina Beck is pregnant, Chichester Festival Theatre is delighted to announce that in the forthcoming production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific, she will rehearse and open the role of Nellie Forbush as planned with performances from 5 July and a press night on 13 July. From 5 August, Alex Young will share the role of Nellie and take over full-time from 23 August for the remainder of the run. South Pacific (which was originally scheduled for 2020) is currently booking until 4 September. Alex returns to the Festival Theatre where she starred opposite Matt Lucas in Me and My Girl in 2018. She and Gina appeared together in Daniel Evans’s production of Show Boat in Sheffield and the West End Daniel Evans, Artistic Director of CFT and director of South Pacific said: ‘It’s utterly joyful news that Gina is expecting her second baby and that her long-awaited Chichester debut in the role of Nellie will take place as planned from 5 July. I know that Gina is as delighted as I am that Alex Young will share the role with her at certain performances from 5 August, and take over full-time for the final weeks of the run to allow Gina to focus full-time on her next production! ‘Our amazing company – of 31 adults, 6 children and 15 musicians – starts rehearsals today. As well as the usual domination of the stages and film-screens, what is hugely gratifying is to see a sudden growing surge of interest and success of NYMTers past and present on the writing and composing front: SCRIPTS AND SCORES AMERICAN JUSTICE, a new play about Barack Obama by RICHARD VERGETTE (The Little Rats 1988/9) opens at the Arts Theatre, 15 Jan 2013, following previews from 10 Jan, running to 9 Feb. JAMES BOURNE (Aurelius 1997, Bugsy Malone 1997/8) has his musical Loserville running until 5 Jan at The Garrick while ADAM MEGGIDO (Drake 1984) has co-composed music and lyrics for The Tailor-Made Man due to open on 13 Feb, also at the Arts Theatre. JJT is also scribbling again having been working recently in Sydney directing a workshop and writing the lyrics for a new music theatre piece, A Peculiar People – the extraordinary true story of a band of Australians who tried to found ‘The New Australia’ in Paraguay in the 1890s. Book and lyrics are by DAVID JENSEN (The Little Rats 1989). Most significant of all, of course, is the new commission for NYMT’s 2013 season, THE OTHER SCHOOL, with music and lyrics by Dougal Irvine and book co-written by Dougal Irvine and DOMINIC MARSH (Aesop 1991, The Ragged Child 1993, Whistle Down The Wind 1993).
