La Paz Serere Eco Reserve Carmen Pampa University Lake Titicaca

St. Catherine University, Carmen Pampa University, and DeLaSalle High School invite your participation in an international academic travel course to Bolivia. The “Public Health: Social Determinants of Health and Ethnobotany” course begins July 10th and 11th with two days and one night at St. Catherine’s, then departs for Bolivia on July 17th for 15 days in the Mountains, Madidi National Park, Lake Titicaca, and LaPaz. Professor Meghan Mason and DeLaSalle faculty, Brad Casey, Martin Marrin, and Keely Wojda will co-teach this unique topic and guide students to some of the most geographically interesting places on earth. Included in the course is the opportunity to earn 4 semester hours of credit from St. Catherine University.

Sun Island - Lake Titicaca Lake Titicaca is a beautiful and much-venerated sacred lake that lies on the border between Peru and Bolivia, near Copacabana. According to Incan mythology, it was from Lake Titicaca that the creator god Viracoca rose up to create the sun, moon, stars, and first human beings. Recently, a large temple was discovered submerged in the lake, adding to its mystery and fascination. Sun Island or Isla del Sol is an island in Lake Titicaca. It’s crossed by trails and known for Inca sites like Pilko Kaina, with its ruined palace. In nearby Yumani village, the Escalera del Inca is a staircase leading to a spring once believed to prolong youth. In the north, near Challapampa village, are the labyrinth-like Chincana ruins. The Roca Sagrada is a large rock said to be the birthplace of the first Incas.
