Summary of Position

Reporting to the AHL Off-Ice Officials Supervisor, the primary responsibility of the AHL Off-Ice Official - Statistician is to function as a contributing member of the AHL Off-Ice Officials team to accurately record player and game statistics for pre-season, regular season and playoff games played in the AHL.

The statistician will work out of the press box at CAA Arena and will be assigned to track / record different events / data based on their assigned role for the game. Roles may vary from game to game.

Off-Ice Officials are independent contractors of the AHL / Belleville Senators. They receive a per game honorarium which is settled at two scheduled intervals as well as other benefits to be discussed at interview.

Responsibilities

● Statistician - Player Time on Ice ○ Using a computer and specialized software, accurately track player(s) time on ice and game situations such as on-ice strength. ○ Using a computer and specialized software, generate time on ice reports at the end of each period and deliver them to each team. ● Statistician - Player +/- Statistics ○ Following the scoring of a , record the players who were on the ice at the time of the goal for each team, verify your observations with a colleague and then report them to the Official Scorer. ○ When in this role, you will also assist the statistician recording player time on ice as a second set of eyes. ● Statistician - Shots on Goal (SOG) ○ Using a computer and specialized software, you will make quick decisions as to whether a on goal occurred. If you determine a SOG (as defined by the AHL) did occur, you will record the shot details in the scoring system. ○ Update the shot clock on the official in arena scoreboard in a timely manner ○ Assist the Official Scorer by verbalizing events so that nothing is missed and assist the Official Scorer with data entry as required.

● Statistician - Goals and Assists ○ Keep track of every puck touch during play so that you can quickly determine the goal scorer and those who assisted should a goal be scored. ○ Verify each goal / assist awarded using a real time video replay system. ○ Upon request of the OIO Supervisor, review an event for accuracy and make changes as necessary. ○ Using a walkie talkie, communicate the goal scorer and player assists to the Official Scorer and the public address announcer. ● Statistician - Official Scorer ○ Using a computer and specialized software, you will track the game time and enter game events into the Official Scoring system. This includes but is not limited to lineups, game officials, penalties, goals / assists, player +/-, changes, shots, etc. ○ This data entry must be made quickly and accurately as it is a live feed to the real-time AHL game center and AHLTV. ○ Following each period, generate an unofficial game report and distribute it to the media, both teams and others as requested by the Supervisor. ○ Following the game, meet with the On-Ice Officials to review the Unofficial Game Report. They will sign the report to make it official. ○ Make any changes requested by the Officials to the unofficial electronic game report, review the completed online game report with the Supervisor and sign off on the electronic game report to make it Official.

Requirements

● Strong computer skills including experience using Windows 10, Google G-Suite, Modern Web Browsers, Electronic Mail and Adobe Reader. ● Off-Ice Officials must be available a minimum of one hour prior to game time and following the end of the game, until all game reports are completed. ● The successful candidate must be available for at least two thirds of the pre-season (~3 Games), regular season (36 Games) and playoff games (# of Games TBD). The full schedule can be viewed online at https://bellevillesens.com/schedule/73/413/home ● The ideal applicant will have significant knowledge of hockey, preferably as an On-Ice or Off-Ice Official, player, coach or manager ● While training will be provided, experience and understanding of electronic scoring systems would be considered an asset (ie HockeyTech, Pointstreak, etc). ● Willing to learn the playing rules, bylaws, scoring policies and other policies / procedures pertinent to the AHL and the Belleville Senators ● Able to operate video review equipment, laptop computer, score board, 2-way radio and other technology that may be introduced by the league ● Able to work effectively within a high pressure, time sensitive environment with extreme focus and concentration. ● Strong communication skills, both written and verbally and are able to work effectively in a team environment. ● Able to demonstrate a calm demeanor, discretion and professionalism in potentially emotional situations
