His next duty came as XO and later CO of the 3d Anti-Tank Battalion with the 3d Marine Division on Okinawa. From Okinawa he went back to Camp Lejeune to serve as S-3 officer, XO and CO of the 2d Amtrac.Battalion, until 1963. After earning his Bathelor of Science Degree in History and Military Science from the University of Omaha in Nebraska, he served as head of the Mechanized Section, Supporting Arms Branch, and as faculty advisor at Command and Staff College in Quantico, Va. The last UC45J, a Beach Aircraft Corporation product, bid aloha to K-Bay and the Marine Corps for the last time. Its predecessor, the "Navigator," also a UC45J, was turned over to the Aircraft Department of Honolulu Community College in 1969. The "Beach" is also being turned over to the same organization. Under a program operated through the Department of Defense and the Office of the Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, military aircraft declared surplus, such as the Air Station's UC45J, may be released to educational institutions for .41111 further use in their training programs.
