Generic Cartoon Toon World Introduction Cartoons, in most places they are just viewed as comedic shows and are just watched as entertainment. However, here in this reality “Toons” are people, a minority group with strange powers who generally work as actors and entertainers producing the various shows that people love. Through cartoon shows such as Bonkers, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons and the Looney Tunes show, you get a glimpse of “the real” world behind the scenes where Toons are people and have there own problems. Unfortunately, the reality is that Toon’s were badly treated for most of their history and for most of the early nineteen hundreds Toons were considered to be nuisances or treated as property to be locked away in their own segregated area. (This is an attempt at covering a wide-variety of cartoons, shows and movies that displayed or had episodes that showed a similar Toons-are-actors-in-a-world-with-humans “behind the scenes”) Animaniacs, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at law, Bonkers, Disney’s house of mouse, Drawn together, Freakazoid, Looney Tunes, Looney Tunes back in action, The Looney Tunes Show, Pinky and the Brain, Space Jam, Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, Son of Zod, Tiny Toons, Who framed Roger rabbit. Bulletin of the Transilvania University of Bra şov • Vol. 4 (53) No.2. - 2011 • Series IV Series IV: Philology and Cultural Studies MUFFLED VOICES IN ANIMATION. GENDER ROLES AND BLACK STEREOTYPES IN WARNER BROS. CARTOONS: FROM HONEY TO BABS BUNNY Xavier FUSTER BURGUERA 1 Abstract: This essay will use a Tiny Toons episode, “Fields of Honey”, as an excuse to survey stereotypical female and racial roles depicted in the most representative cartoons of the 20 th century. It is particularly relevant to go back to a 1990s cartoon series since, in that decade, Western animation was undergoing crucial changes in its conception which would determine significantly the upcoming animated instalments of the new millennium. Moreover, contemporary cartoonists are now those grown-up children that watched the earlier American cartoons whose allegedly unconscious female discrimination and “innocent” racism might somehow have been fossilised among its audience and become thus perpetuated in the culture and imaginary of the globalised world. Finally, it is also important to be acquainted with the contents of cartoons understood as children’s products, especially in a period where television is taking over most of the parental duties and guidance in children’s development into adulthood. Key words: popular culture, media and animation studies, gender roles, black stereotypes, Warner Bros., Tiny Toons. 1. Introduction: All this and rabbit stew Animation, as well as real-image featurettes, became an extension of the Cartoons were born at the beginning of theatrical ritual. Cartoons started to be th the 20 century, thanks to the projected before a theatrical performance technological revolution that was changing or as interludial pieces as soon as 1911.

  • Response to This Article About the Hasbro/Discovery Hub Shift In
Response to this article about the Hasbro/Discovery Hub shift in power...which turned into another my long-winded, thoughtful rants: http://online.wsj.com/articles/discovery-to-take-control-of-the-hub-network- 1410979842 Well, that's...somewhat shocking. From what I can tell, the Hasbro/Discovery partnership in The Hub has been an amazing success. I watch the channel almost every day. Most of its programming is--and has been, for the past 3.5 years--excellent. From the original series (FiM, Pound Puppies, Strawberry Shortcake, LPS, Dan Vs., Aquabats Super Show, Family Game Night, Care Bears, Transformers, Haunting Hour), to all the other wonderful shows/sitcoms (oh my goodness!! Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Goosebumps, Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, Step By Step, Who's the Boss, Family Ties, The Facts of Life, Sister, Sister, Sabrina, Atomic Betty, etc.), to the extremely well-chosen family movies (I loved it when they aired the Homeward Bound films, All Dogs Go to Heaven 2...today I saw Spaceballs...and they've just made so many other great movie picks every season.) They've been an outstanding example of listening to your viewers and giving them what they want. Even their misfires and middle-of-the-road shows are more than bearable (SheZow, animated Sabrina, Teenage Fairytale Dropouts, Kid President, Parents Just Don't Understand, and such.) If Hasbro were to grow dissatisfied with controlling six hours of its toy-based cartoons daily on Hub (which seems like a fair deal they've cut, tbh), and moved them over to Cartoon Network or Disney...well, at least the shows would still continue on, and be a MASSIVE boon to either of those channels.
