15 VIPNEWS > NOVEMBER 2012 > INDEPTH STORY > GEMA Contention over Predicted Effects of the UK Live Music Act Allan McGowan [email protected]

In the last issue we reported on the coming into law of the Live Music Act which deregulates live performances in rooms of no more than 200 people capacity and on the claims by a UK Music commissioned study that this would result in a significant number of venues either starting to present live music or increasing present programmes. The Report predicted that an additional 300,000 plus live shows would take place.

Much as we welcome many aspects of the beneficial effects that the Act could have we noted that many existing dedicated music venues were worried about the effects that increases competition could have Andy Inglis on their already difficult business.
