A better number of prime cattle met a similar trade to recent weeks. A quality entry of cattle met plenty of demand around the ring. Top price per kilo was 209p for a Limousin x heifer from Messrs. G.W. & H.E. Hawkey of St. Wenn purchased by Chris Dale for his Butcher’s Shop. Top value was a big 745kg Limousin x heifer from Mr. R.E. Richards of St. Keverne realising £1,445 to J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.

The best entry of cull cows for several weeks met a strong trade especially for the well- covered types, with plenty of demand. Topping at 136p/kg was a British Blue x from Messrs. G.W. & H.E. Hawkey of St. Wenn selling to Davis Ellis of Lelant. A grand pair of Charolais cows from Mr. W.J. Buckett of Ashton each realised 125p/kg with the heavier 873kg cow top value at £1,091 and bought by Trevarthens of Roskrow. Friesians selling to a premium of 116p/kg for Mr. T.A. Wills of St. Erme to Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh.

A fair entry of store cattle met another cracking trade from a good contingent of buyers around the ring. Super Hereford sired cattle again this week from Messrs. C.J. Osborne & Son of Fraddon saw pairs of steers topping at £1,175 and £1,105 with four heifers £1,005 apiece. A lovely entry of Limousins from Messrs. J. & J. Sawle & Son of Beacon under 2 years old saw best steers to £1,050 and a trio topping the heifers at £1,070. Young Devon sired cattle out of Charolais cows from Mr. B.J. Maycock of a super pair of steers hit £1,020 with five smart Limousin x yearlings from Mr. G.T. Stone of Carleen selling to £950. Nice Charolais heifers from Mr. T.R. Nicholas at Gweek saw the youngest 14 month old bunch make £705.

Numbers continue to dry-up as we come towards the end of the season yet still a very fast trade across the board. Topping at £95 was a single 57.5kg hog from Mr. R.A. Jasper & Son Ltd of Launceston.
