Santa Anita Cleared of Criminal Neglect in Horse Deaths D8 FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2019 LATIMES.COM/SPORTS Trash talk done, they’re ready to go After a delay because of injury, Harrison and Charlo finally get into the ring Saturday in a WBC super-welterweight title rematch. By Manouk Akopyan Tony Harrison and Jermell Charlo can’t stop criticizing each other heading into their rematch Saturday at Toyota Arena in Ontar- io. Harrison (28-2, 21 KOs) scored a razor- thin unanimous decision win 364 days ago to shock then-undefeated Charlo (32-1, 16 KOs) for his WBC super-welterweight belt. For the last year, in between a rematch postponement because Harrison suffered an ankle injury, the boxers have been bark- ing at each other with enough trash talk to Jake Schoellkopf Associated Press overflow a landfill. JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR., shown in 2007, is back in the ring against Daniel Jacobs after a checkered last few years. The unscripted verbal montage has been full of low blows and the pair of 29-year-olds will finally look to prove there is fire beyond the smoke in their nationally televised fight on Fox. “I could beat him anywhere, it doesn’t matter,” Harrison said. “We could fight in this room right now. Nothing is going to Son of boxing royalty change. There’s no respect. I’m going to show him each and every time. I’m not the one to play with.” Harrison is a gritty fighter from Detroit’s tough 7 Mile area and protege of the late Emanuel Steward. The Houston-based Charlo, who has a twin brother in champion Jermall, brought the best out of Harrison says he’s ready to rise last year, and the two have the ingredients for a lifelong rivalry should another enter- taining fight break out. “The judges that gave him the first fight Chavez insists he’s a changed and focused fighter after 27-month hiatus woke me up,” Charlo said. “All of the talking doesn’t matter. • Senators See Unit Criteria As Budget Cut
t • I i f Senators see unit criteria as budget cut By KARLA HUFENBACH TM Managing Editor A six unit enrollment requirement for ASCC funding for scholastic competitions has been approved unanimously by the ASCC Senate. "This should streamline the budget for this fiscal year, and prevent us from going in the red like last year," said Jesus Gomez^ ASCC president On its first time out, the bill written by Party Whip Allen Holland and Senator Tammy Olmedo, was voted into committee for review. The Finance and Budget Committee headed by Senate President Pro-Tem Rudolph Ritt, recommended passage of the bill with an amendment limiting it to the current fiscal year. "This bill gave the budget committee a chance to work, and it provided the oppor tunity for more people in the Senate to be involved in policy making decisions," said Kelly Kafel, ASSC vice president and Senate chair, Its approval comes as a direct result of a recently passed Senate bill that lowers the required enrollment for club and organiza tion participation to one unit. In other ASCC business, the annual leadership conference is scheduled for Jan. 10, 11, 12, at Harbor Town Marina Resort in Ventura. The $35 cost includes room, meals and attendance to all workshops. Special seminars are scheduled that will help motivate students toward success in leadership. Social activities are also scheduled including: volleyball, tennis, swimming and a dinner/dance cruise. Registration forms are available from student activities. r Sign ups to close at CSU campuses By JUDY RUSSELL TM Staff Writer According to the Transfer Center Coor dinator Lisa Sugimoto, applications for lower division transfer to CSULB are due Nov.
