Our special guest artist tonight is:-

Kevin Thompson Kevin is one of our local artists, better known to most of us as the man behind “CROSS ROADS MUSIC”, a business that he has owned for over 20 years. He looks after any of our members who visit his shop on the corner of Doveton and Skipton streets. He has a fine reputation as one of the best guitar technicians in the area. Kevin has performed along with Troy Cassar-Daley, , The Wolverines and Carter and Carter. In 2008, he teamed up with long time friend and muso, Steve Crick, and they made a CD called “Cowboys at Heart”, an acoustic album produced in the studios of Bill Chambers. They are both laid-back and casual guys.

Enjoy the evening with the smooth sounds of Kevin Thompson.

Jilly’s Ramblings Hi there, and welcome to our 202nd Club night. Unbelievably Christmas is just around the corner - just over 2 1/2 months away. This means that our Club Christmas BBQ is only 7 weeks away. If you would like to be there, simply write your name in the book on the front desk. For details check this newsletter or go to our website www.cmav.com.au The Ballarat weather has been as changeable as ever - perhaps this is just a small part of the reason why there has been so much sickness around. Our lovely Doris (Evelyn Farquhar’s Mum) had been in Hospital for 3 weeks - she went home for a short time, but is now back in Hospital. Colin, who with wife Lola, is responsible for the annual nostalgia night at the Victorian Bowling Club, has been unwell for quite some time, and just about 2 weeks ago, he was admitted to Hospital, and he was fitted with a pacemaker. He is already home, and doing well. To Doris, Col and all our ’sickies’, please accept our warmest wishes for a speedy recovery. The Mildura Country Music Festival finishes today, and I have been told that it has been as good as ever. Dennis, Jess, and I went to this festival a few years ago and we loved it - it was all about music, atmosphere, and catching up with friends. All being well, maybe next year. I believe that Royden Donohue is recovering from his serious road accident which occurred when he was returning home to Nyngan from Victoria in August. He still finds it hard to believe that he and his mate survived.

Jilly’s Ramblings - cont’

On Thursday night at the Wentworth Club in Mildura he was performing with Rick Bartlett, Lee Forster and Roland Storm - I bet that would have been a great show!!! There are a couple of good concerts lined up for Ballarat over the next month or two - Damien Leith is to present “Roy” - a tribute to Roy Orbison, and Troy Casser-Daley is back in town on the 11th of November. Isla Grant will be performing in Melbourne in the Crown Casino on the 26th November - tickets are priced at $71.30. Next year, on 20th March, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will perform together in concert for the first time in Australia at the Rod Laver Arena. They are doing a concert in each capital city and also at Australia’s biggest international Country and Roots Festival - “CMC Rocks the Hunter.” Sebastopol Country Talent Club Inc. has had a change of venue. It is now “The Mount Xavier Golf and Bowling Club” in Fortune Street, Ballarat East. The first show there is on the 23rd of October with guest artist Kim Ritchie, starting at 5pm (for this show only) - contact number is 0435 150 322. A member of our Club has offered to convert audio tapes to CD’s and videos to DVD’s. For more information, I have a number that you can ring. I am ending this months ramblings on yet another sad note. Adrian Lillis plays bass guitar in the Beaufort Club band. On September 29th, his only daughter, passed away. She had suffered for many years with an hereditary disease known as Spino-cerebellar Ataxia. It is a slow moving, degenerative disease, for which there is no known cure. Our thoughts are with you, Adrian.
