Checklist for Nordic Citizens

Nordic countries: Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Before arrival in :

If you keep your residence in Sweden/Norway you do not have to register as a resident in Denmark and can move on to step 2.

After arrival in Denmark:

1. When you move to Denmark you must notify the Danish National Register (“Folkeregister”) at the municipality where you live. When you have obtained a CPR number you will receive your yellow health card within 2-3 weeks by mail. (Please note that if you are staying in Denmark for less than 3 months you cannot register or get a CPR number.) Please make sure to put your name on your mailbox/door, otherwise you won’t receive any mail including your yellow health card.

2. If (and only if) you will continue to reside in your home country during your employment at SDU, you must apply for a Danish personal tax number using this online form. A special health card must also be obtained from Udbetaling Danmark. You can apply online here.

3. Apply for a tax card online after you have received your CPR-number unless you qualify for the special tax scheme for researchers recruited abroad (Step 5). The Danish Tax Agency will issue an electronic tax card. If you do not have an electronic tax card SDU must withhold 55 % of your salary until it is issued.

Citizens from the following municipalities Billund, , , -Midtfyn, Kerteminde, , Nordfyn, , Sønderborg, and Ærø can also visit International Citizen Service in Odense for this assistance.

4. You must bring the following documentation with you: a. Your passport or national ID card b. Your personal ID number from your home country c. Proof of your address in Denmark (E.g. rental contract, letter from landlord etc.) d. Marriage certificate (if applicable) regardless of your partner accompanying you. e. Birth certificates for children under 18 accompanying you.

5. If you would like to opt for the “27% researcher taxation” • Check the conditions: https://skat.dk/skat.aspx?oid=97319&chk=215693 • Fill in this form in close cooperation with your department: https://www.skat.dk/getfile.aspx?id=137568 • Let the head of your department approve and sign it. • The department will send it to the salary office for further handling

6. When you have received your CPR number you can open a bank account in any Danish bank of your choice. Please remember to have the account set up as a “Nemkonto”.

7. Please remember to keep the Personnel Office at SDU updated on your Danish private address, your Danish CPR number or taxation registration number, your Danish tax card or the duly signed 27% taxation application form and your Danish bank account (Nemkonto).
