Degrees Conferred: B.S. E.E University of Michigan 1968 M.S. E.E Stanford University 1969 Thesis Topic: Measurement, Performance Evaluation, and Scheduling of Computing systems.
Supervisor: Prof. E. J. McCluskey Current Research: My Ph.D. dissertation is concerned with the measurement, analysis, and scheduling of computer systems. The mea- surements are being used to analyze the practical impact of theoretical investigations I have undertaken in the area of drum schedjling. Basically, I have developed an efficient algorithm to optimally schedule the drum. The algorithm is optimal in the sense that it constructs a schedule that will process a set of N requests in the minimal amount of time, taking into account the present position of the drum. It is able to construct this sched ule on the order of N*logN steps, which is comparable to the work required to construct such popular schedules as shortest-access-time-first.

Degrees Conferred: B.S. E.E University of Notre Dame M.S. Syracuse University Thesis Topic: Properties of Parallel Algorithms Supervisor: Prof. H. S. Stone Current Research: I am presently doing research on algorithms for solving recurrence equations on parallel computers such as the ILLIAC IV. At present, I am investigating a parallel algorithm which can solve a wide class of first order recurrence equations. Present and planned future re- search includes: 1. Proof that this algorithm is time-optimal. 2. Investigation into the minimum number of indi- vidual processors in the parallel computer needed to achieve the minimal time bound. 3. Extension of the algorithm to more general m th order equations. 4. Numerical stability for certain specific problems . 5. Expansion of the algorithm to a wider class of first order problems.
I am also investigating theorem proving programs for s solving problems dealing with linear inequalities, and at present have an algorithm which appears to be much more efficient than previously known ones.
