A local man about town, Bill Toevs, showed us this item of early Sanford history. It looks like a brass 1880s baggage check. The two railroads involved were Henry Sanford's South Florida Railroad which ran from Sanford to Tampa and the ambitiously named Jacksonville, Tampa and Key West Rail- way. The JT&KW ran from Jacksonville to Sanford. As the South Florida was originally a narrow gauge line, freight had to be physically transferred from one line to the other in Sanford, thus the tags.
