grapevine etc.indd 4 26/10/2012 09:59 Tribute Evening

In October 2012, Hang Loose celebrated its 14th Anniversary with the usual Black and White theme and American Supper. The evening also paid tribute to Val and Gordon who set up the club all those years ago. Gordon passed away some years ago and, sadly, Val lost her long battle against cancer earlier this year. We spent the evening remembering them with dances they had taught over the years and anecdotes shared by club members new and old. It was an emotional evening with both tears and laughter. They are both remembered with great affection - they gave us so many years of happy dancing with some fabulous themed party nights and regular live bands. The club will continue to run as Hang Loose (one of Val’s final requests) and I hope we’ll be holding many more anniversary parties in the years to come.

example, Hearts Drawn In The Sand is imbued with nostalgia about days gone by of seaside towns and summer boardwalks that vanish at the end of summer like “hearts drawn in the sand”, Tulsa Texas is a great rodeo song full of vim and vigour and finally All Over The Road is an engaging song about a girl who has Easton’s full attention! This is an album of sounds but also of images, story telling and beautiful, well rounded productions.

Second albums are notoriously hard to pull off but All Over The Road is a winner. The hit single Lovin’ You Is Fun is a perfect example of how Corbin can remain true to his roots and be a 2012 pleasure to listen to. As a singer, this 30 year old artist has grown immensely in the short space of two years and as a new voice of Country, Easton Corbin is ready to make an indelible mark of his own with a return to Country roots that is most welcomed.

Former Genesis guitarist and rock icon Steve Red is the upcoming fourth studio album by Hackett returns with a follow-up to 1996’s Genesis American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and is Revisited. As the title suggests, it sees Hackett the follow up to her commercially successful 2010 reinterpreting the golden era of the great band – album Speak. Swift said she narrowed down the track list from about 35 songs. Swift has confi rmed that a duet with Ed Sheeran, which they co-wrote, will be on the album.

for teachers and parent volunteers at schools, performing with our students at various events. Christopher also taught the staff of his company, as part of the company healthy lifestyle programme. I was also invited by a school to teach the Girls Brigade. Currently we are teaching at Far Horizon Gardens, which is part of Class dance the Greenview Neighbourhood, located in the north of Singapore. Apart from holding classes, we hold monthly jams. When people thank us for our guidance on the dance fl oor we are fi lled with enormous joy. Their happy faces always make our day.

We wish to continue choreographing and teaching for as long as we possibly can and introduce and encourage more people to learn Line dancing. We fi nd great joy in sharing our knowledge with those who are interested. This is an activity that we can visualise ourselves doing for a long time to come, right into our old age. Currently, we can go for the faster paced dances. As age catches up, we can easily switch to the slower Class pose tempo dances but can still equally have as much fun.

Nothing as far as Linedancer magazine is concerned, but a new album from him is always a bit of an event. Here Toby, Keith in his own words, gives us the lowdown on this splendid new release track by track…

1. HOPE ON THE ROCKS frozen or with an umbrella in it. And my 8. hope on the rocks.indd 2 26/10/2012 11:06 In my job, I am used to a lot of stick. And not just from readers either. I have to please choreographers, instructors, social dancers, charity dancers, dancers from all over the world, event organisers… the list is long. But I always try to keep one thing in mind. So my job, really, is to make sure that what my reader gets and pays for is relevant to them, all of them. And that is the hardest of tasks!

Another real hard part of the job is managing changes. You see, most people loathe changes and that includes, well, me… but as the editor (and I speak for the team here too) the most important thing after relevance is to be able to reach readers and subscribers in every way I, we, can. And that is why a while back (July this year) Online Weekly was born.

Now, I need to remind you all that if you have a subscription to Linedancer, ANY type of subscription, you have FULL access to Online Weekly. And though it changed my editing and working habits forever as well as the team’s, it has proved a real exciting addition to Linedancer.

I would love you to try it out if you haven’t already. You see, apart from the fact it takes a lot of time and effort to create a Weekly, it is actually (even if I say so myself) brilliant. Just brilliant.

Why? Well, because, so far, every week has been a week with an exclusive interview or a guided tour of an event. Things that simply cannot translate in a paper product. Interviews are particularly fascinating. So far, Maggie G, Roy Verdonk, Simon Ward, Guyton Mundy, Daniel Trepat, Roy Hadisubroto, Ria Vos, Kate Sala and many more to follow have talked to us. They have spoken, some very candidly, about their own lives, struggles and how being a ‘name’ impacts on them. These little conversations can never translate emotionally on paper nor can you ask the questions we ask on your behalf to people you meet once or twice a year.

Online Weekly is a new experience. I see it as opening doors to both subscriber and well known personality, so they can have an exchange of sorts. When you get to know how Maggie literally juggles her life, how Kate made a life changing decision to pursue her dance dream and how Guyton turned his life around, it makes those stars so much more approachable, human! We see these guys as dance machines and we like them for their warmth and approachability but we have no idea of what makes them tick….As I said earlier, fascinating stuff!

So, and because changes are inevitable, why not look at the Online Weekly every Wednesday on your computer. It is available to ALL our subscribers, we don’t charge any more for it and it unveils dances and scripts you did not know of every single week and more importantly, you will get to know all about the people YOU love. So go on, make yourself a cuppa or pour yourself a large one and switch the PC on…You are in for a treat we reckon…Happy online reading!
