1 About The College

School of Social Work, managed by the institute of Social Service, Mangaluru was established in 1960 by the society of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary. An International catholic religious congregation of women, founded in France. School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, is affiliated to the University of Mangalore, and has been functioning as an Autonomous college since the year 2007. The college has been re-accredited by NAAC with‘A' Grade. It has been doing yeomon service in the field of social work education in Karnataka for the last 50 years. The college is situated in a six acre campus in the Heart of Mangaluru city.

Master of SocialWork, as an academic programme saw its humble beginnings in the year 1967. Since then as many as 51 trained batches of professional social workers have left the portals of this college to serve faithfully in various spheres such as government and Non government Organisations, health and educational settings, industries and most importantly among the marginalized sections of society. The MSW course offered at School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya taps the potential of students and prepare them to light up the lives of people, who are in dire need of help 'Roshni Nilaya', a 'Home of Divine Light' uses any and every opportunity to brighten the darkened lives of the people and leave behind everlasting hope, love and happiness. The faculty with their experience and knowledge provide ample opportunities and practical experiences to the students to develop a mindset which echoes 'together we can'. The aim of this institution is to transform lives with an unique touch that leaves an imprint in the souls of all people motivating them to move forward with courage and a positive frame of mind.

School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya has traversed more than five decades of service as a threshold of learning to many rural as well as urban based students who wish to engage in diverse fields of Social Work with specialisations in Community Development, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and Personnel Management and Industrial Relations. The HR Professionals trained by our Institute ever since 1967 have demonstrated their professional Excellence and expertise hat rendered a greater preference for Roshni graduates in this field. pedagogy, skills-centric approach and value based performance offered by Our expert, committed and experienced team of staff in conjunction with the updated Mentoring offered by our alumni who are eminent HR practitioners in renownedcompanies and service organisations, set the Master of Social Work programme in our college with specialisation in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, distinctive and exceptional. Professionalism is facilitated in our college merging theory and skill training sessions held in the college with the concurrent field placement and block field placement in industries, corporate sector, banking institutions and other service organisations. Such hands on experience and individualised training under the guidance of expert mentors prepare our students to emerge as effective Human Resource managers. Other opportunities open to our students in harnessing their talents and acquiring professional work culture range from co-curricular activities such as organising and participating in academic sessions and workshops in collaboration with professional associations, visits to industries and corporate sectors as well as interdisciplinary programmes in social work and allied fields. Roshni Nilaya is one of the premier institutes in Karnataka in the field of Social Work, imparting quality education in the area of HRM and development sectors. The biggest strength of the students of Roshni Nilaya lies in the proactive learning approach and detailed academic course of action that has prepared them to do tremendously well in various demanding situations of the dynamic business environment.

The teaching pedagogy includes both classroom training and practical aspects such as case studies, class presentations, forum activities, sports and cultural programmes as well as guest lectures, industrial visits and internships which help in the holistic development of the students. Our batches have been doing very well in several corporate establishments in India and abroad. 8 Human Resource Management Forum

HRM forum is a part of Co-curricular activity and purely a student venture. The forum enables the young minds to be updated in the field of HR. The members of the forum organizes various seminars, talks, conferences, discussion, and industrial visits which help them to improve their organizing skills, leadership qualities, and widen their learning horizon.
