Maze & Frankie Beverly, also known as just Maze, is an American R&B/ soul/ funk band from San Francisco, California. Formed by songwriter, record producer, singer, keyboardist and guitarist Frankie Beverly initially as Raw Soul in 1970 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A few singles were recorded, but unfortunately none of them took off the way they wanted. The group went through a few personal changes, and relocated to San Francisco, California in 1971. Through a chance encounter with singer Marvin Gaye who took them on the road with him on his tour, the group found a huge amount of success. Additionally, Gaye was the one that suggested they change the name of the group from Raw Soul to Maze. In 1976 the group signed a record contract to Capitol Records and released their first album entitled “Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly.” The album contained the widely popular singles “Happy Feelin’s,” “While I’m Alone” and “Lady of Magic.” The album also helped them reach certified gold status as well as a huge fan base. The following three years also saw the release of three consecutively released albums, one for each year. In 1980 they released a live album “Live In New Orleans” and continued to sell out show after show. The group released “Can’t Stop The Love” in the spring of 1985, and in 1989 they signed with Warner Brothers Records. They continued to tour and play live shows to this day. Live reviews. Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. Before I Let Go is the instantly attention grabbing song that Maze feat Frankie Beverly kick into in this Amsterdam live show, where the audience is packed out from front to back. Immediately, I’m thinking that this eight-piece disco revival outfit must have heavily influenced Bruno Mars and The Hooligans, dancing across the stage in sync, singing some huge harmonies making a nostalgic noise. The colours are bright, with high waist trousers and large bowling shirts with wide colours tucked into brightly colours chinos. This band are one serious Swiss Army knife, orchestrating some truly virtuosic moments with their instruments, but not to fuel their egos, you can tell it is all in the name of making a fantastic sound that is going to give these patrons exactly what they paid for. They are definitely one of those bands that I would urge any person to go and see, who is simply looking for a good time. Especially with songs such as “Happy Feelin’s”. Maze featuring Frankie Beverly are legends! I have seen them many times and will continue to support them as long as they are touring. The place was electric. A sea of people dressed in all white, standing ovations after almost every song, people in the crowd stepping and singing to every song and oh my the guitarist who did the solo. left me speechless! As mentioned, I have seen them many times in both St. Louis and Chicago. More songs in St. Louis; however, better all around vibe in Chicago. This was one of the best shows I've seen with Maze featuring Beverly. I'm all in for the next one! As usual this event was awesome and Gladys knight was unbelievable if you missed it you missed a great performance by both artists. The atmosphere and tone was set up by Gladys knight as all fans were on there feet dancing and grooving to some of her greatest hits which ended with a gospel tribute to God himself thanking him for that soulful voice and career of hers. Frankie Beverly took the stage and no need to bore you with long commentary on how good he was because as usual he was Awesome. The show was fantastic. Anthony Hamilton kicked it off and that was a show in itself. Then as he does Frankie was classic Frankie and there are not to many bands that are in sync and or as consistent as Maze. The building was full of energy. Frankie will be making 72 in December and still as enthusiastic as when he started. His voice is not day one but held up very well during this concert. No one makes timeless music like Maze featuring Frankie Beverly any more. Wow!It was Amazing!I can't express in words, how much I really enjoyed myself. This is my 3rd time seeing Maze Frankie Beverley in concert. My heart was relieved from so many of life circumstances. Frankie Beverley is such an inspiration to me and my family. Hey will always be remembered forever as one of the greatest heartfelt singers of all time. May God continue to bless him and his family and friends throughout his journey. Go see him while you still can. Frankie is about to turn 70 and although his voice is NOT what it used to be from 40 yrs of touring, they still put on an incredible show. Its great to see a living legend still doing it. Joe was also great and still sounds like the record on every hit. Jahiem wasn't great but he did his best. I think it was more his lack of practice with the band as his voice and show was decent. I have been a Fan of Theirs since they performed in Philly as Frankie Beverly and the Raw Soul, Before that His group was the Butlers. Everybody in Philly Knows that If You had An Event and you had Frankie & The Raw Soul Your Show or Cabaret SOLD OUT 2 weeks Before your Event!! Not only are They Fantastic Performers, But They're also Fantastic Brothers and I Love Them. Padre Jody From Philly. The concert on 2/13/15 was AMAZINGLY AWESOME! I took my sister, who had going to see Frankie Beverly & Maze as one of her bucket list events in life. So she has officially been AMAZED and we both had one of the BEST times. Frankie still looks and sounds GREAT! It's just something about his concerts that attracts a mature, sophisticated, energetic crowd of all races and ages. LOVED IT!! I was sincerely blessed to have gone to the concert with my sister from another mother and we both enjoyed the concert fully, I think Frankie Beverly has one of the biggest hearts for his fans and we love him back.

  • UNDERNEATH the MUSIC Ellington
ABSTRACT Title of Document: UNDERNEATH THE MUSIC Ellington Rudi Robinson, Master of Fine Arts, 2008 Directed By: Professor, Jefferson Pinder, and Department of Art I see my work as an expression of a young man growing up in a household of music, books, and highly influential people. During the crack era that becomes prevalent under the tenure of President Reagan. The influences of the past will be the guides to surviving in a time when many friends parish as victims from the abundance of violence. The influences and tragedies are translated into motifs that are metaphors combined to create forms of communication. The hardwood floors, record jackets, tape, and railroad tracks provide a catalyst. These motifs are combined and isolated to tell an intense story that is layered with the history of the Civil Rights Movement, hip hop culture, drugs and music. The work is a conduit to release years of pain dealing with loss and oppression. It is also a vehicle to celebrate the philosophy that joy and pain are synonymous with life. • THE COLLECTED POEMS of HENRIK IBSEN Translated by John Northam
1 THE COLLECTED POEMS OF HENRIK IBSEN Translated by John Northam 2 PREFACE With the exception of a relatively small number of pieces, Ibsen’s copious output as a poet has been little regarded, even in Norway. The English-reading public has been denied access to the whole corpus. That is regrettable, because in it can be traced interesting developments, in style, material and ideas related to the later prose works, and there are several poems, witty, moving, thought provoking, that are attractive in their own right. The earliest poems, written in Grimstad, where Ibsen worked as an assistant to the local apothecary, are what one would expect of a novice. Resignation, Doubt and Hope, Moonlight Voyage on the Sea are, as their titles suggest, exercises in the conventional, introverted melancholy of the unrecognised young poet. Moonlight Mood, To the Star express a yearning for the typically ethereal, unattainable beloved. In The Giant Oak and To Hungary Ibsen exhorts Norway and Hungary to resist the actual and immediate threat of Prussian aggression, but does so in the entirely conventional imagery of the heroic Viking past. From early on, however, signs begin to appear of a more personal and immediate engagement with real life. There is, for instance, a telling juxtaposition of two poems, each of them inspired by a female visitation. It is Over is undeviatingly an exercise in romantic glamour: the poet, wandering by moonlight mid the ruins of a great palace, is visited by the wraith of the noble lady once its occupant; whereupon the ruins are restored to their old splendour.

Frankie Beverly & Maze Tribute Album In The Works Page 1 of 2 Powered by Frankie Beverly & Maze Tribute Album In The Works April 07, 2009 01:02 PM ET Gail Mitchell, L.A. Gospel star Donald Lawrence and Grammy-nominated producer Rex Rideout are among the first collaborators to sign up for an all-star tribute album honoring legendary R&B group Maze, Billboard has learned exclusively. "I Wanna Thank You...An All-Star Tribute to Maze featuring Frankie Beverly" is being produced through Brantera Music Group Inc., headed by Beverly's son Anthony. In addition to Lawrence, who is contributing a full-blown gospel version of Maze's 1984 track, "I Wanna Thank You," Anthony is currently negotiating with several other veteran and new artists from the R&B, gospel and jazz arenas. Rideout is serving as co-producer of the project, whose selections will include a cross section of memorable Maze tunes, among them: the No. 1 R&B hits "Back in Stride" and "Can't Get Over You," "Silky Soul," "Before I Let Go" and "Golden Time of Day." Getting its big break in the early '70s as the backing band and opening act on a Marvin Gaye tour, Maze signed with Capitol and later segued to Warner Bros.. The group's first major R&B chart credit was 1977's "While I'm Alone" which peaked at No. 21. "After 30 hit singles and 12 albums, I thought it was time to get this done," says Anthony, who doubles as the project's executive producer. "The group's longevity boils down to one word: real.
