WASHINGTON HUSKIES 2007 WOMEN’S GOLF MEDIA GUIDE 2007 SEASON Season Outlook The Washington women’s golf team is poised to start the 2007 season right where it left off last spring – continuing to set new standards for a program on the rise. Led by the best player to ever don purple and

WASHINGTON HUSKIES 2007 WOMEN’S GOLF MEDIA GUIDE COACHES Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational 2007 SEASON The 54-hole Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational is Washington’s annual fall tournament held at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. The event is named for the founder of the Washington women’s golf program. The 2006 Ihlanfelt Invitational was the 25th in the event’s history. Stanford won the team title while Cardinal Mari Chun took home individual honors. It was the fourth Ihlanfeldt Invitational title for Stanford, who also won the tournament in 1990, 1994 and 1996. The Cardinal dominated the second and third rounds of play to come away with the crown, defeating second- place New Mexico by six strokes. PLAYERS Chun shot a tournament-low 68 to open the tournament, finishing with a 1-under 215. New Mexico’s Jodi Ewart shot a 1-over 217 to take runner- up honors, while Arizona State’s Jennifer Osborn used a third-round 68 to finish in third at 2-over 218.

Edean Ihlanfeldt is the woman responsible for launching the women’s golf team at Washington, and she never took a dime for the job she loved so much during her coaching career. When Washington expanded its athletic lineup to include women’s sports, Kit Green hired Ihlanfeldt, one of the 2005-06 REVIEW area’s top players, to coach the Huskies. Armed with an envelope of names and addresses of women who signed up to play, she started the program in 1974 before retiring seven years later in 1981 at the age of 50. During her seven-year coaching career, Ihlanfeldt never accepted payment for her coaching duties. Instead, she donated her salary back for scholarships. Three of Ihlanfeldt’s teams and five individuals qualified for the AIAW cham- pionships. During her tenure, Washington was the only Northwest team to qualify for the nationals. Ihlanfeldt was no stranger to championship golf. Her list of victories included five PNGA titles, six Montana State champion- ships, three Washington State titles, four Seattle City championships, the 15 Trans-Mississippi title and the Canadian Open Championship. She was the only player to win the Seattle City, Washington and PNGA tournaments in
