City Gallery Summer Planning School 2019 “Be a Town Planner” ‘Teen Planners Group’ Programme and Guidelines Aims / Objectives The programme is designed to provide our students with a better understanding of town planning and various aspects of the town planning process in Hong Kong. The objective of the programme is to arouse students’ interest in town planning and the future development of Hong Kong with an aim to nurture a new generation of young planners. Details The Summer Planning School curriculum include a general introduction on town planning will comprise of lectures, field studies and workshops led by professional town planners or from related fields. All participants who have successfully completed the programme will receive a Certificate of Completion and will be invited to attend the Graduation Ceremony. As part of the experience sharing, all students’ works completed in the workshops will be exhibited at City Gallery or City Gallery website. Details of the ‘Teen Planners Group’ programme are as follows: Date: 24 / 07 / 2019 – 26 / 07 / 2019 (Round 1) 31 / 07 / 2019 – 02 / 08 / 2019 (Round 2) Time: See programme below Venue: City Gallery and Urban Renewal Exploration Centre Target: All Secondary Schools (Students progressing Secondary 5 and 6 in the 2019/20 school year) No. of Places: 60 respectively for Round 1 & 2 (up to 10 places for each school) on a first-come-first-served basis. Language: Cantonese (except otherwise specified) Programme (Tentative): Date (Venue) Time Content (Venue) Town Planning and Sustainable Development in Hong Kong Round 1: 10:00 – 10:10 Registration 24 / 07 / 2019 (Wed) 10:10 – 11:10 Introduction to Town Planning in Hong Kong Round 2: 11:10 – 12:30 Urban Design in Hong Kong 31 / 07 / 2019 (Wed) 14:00 – 15:30 Conservation Policy and Practice in Hong Kong (City Gallery) 15:30 – 16:30 City Gallery Guided Tour Round 1: Field Study 25 / 07 / 2019 (Thu) Round 2: 10:00 – 10:45 Introduction to Urban Renewal in Hong Kong 01/ 08 / 2019 (Thu) (Urban Renewal 11:00 – 12:30 Guided Tour on Urban Renewal (Central and Western District) Exploration Centre) Round 1: Workshop 26 / 07 / 2019 (Fri) Round 2: 10:00 – 16:00 Urban Renewal Workshop 02 / 08 / 2019 (Fri) (including lunch break) (City Gallery) 1 Remarks: The graduation ceremony will be arranged on a Saturday morning in August 2019 with details to be announced in due course. Guidelines 1. Participants shall arrange their own transportation to the City Gallery and the location of the field study. 2. If the participant(s) is/are not able to attend any of the activities of the programme, he/she has to inform the responsible teacher(s) in accordance with procedures of the participating school(s) for taking leave. 3. To obtain the Certificate of Completion, participants must attend the workshop and field study, and with attendance rate of 75% or above of other curriculum. Participants with unexcused absences will be disqualified. 4. Tutors/group leaders will arrange rest for about 10 to 15 minutes during the programme where appropriate. Participants with special request shall reflect to tutors/group leaders for arrangement. 5. Inclement weather arrangements: - If Red Rainstorm Warning Signal/Black Rainstorm Warning Signal/Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or higher is still in force at 08:00 or Education Bureau announces that classes are suspended, the programme on the same day will be cancelled. The programme will be postponed. - If the above Warning Signal(s) is in force during the transportation time to City Gallery or the venue of the flied study, participants and their parents should decide whether they wish to continue to travel to City Gallery or stay in another safe place. The programme on the same day will be cancelled and postponed. - If the above Rainstorm Warning Signal(s) is in force during the programme (except the field study), the programme on the same day will carry on. If the above Rainstorm Warning Signal(s) is still in force after the programme, participants should stay in City Gallery. - If the Hong Kong Observatory announces the pre-warning for Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or higher during the programme (except the field study), the remaining programme on the same day will be cancelled. Participants shall return home or go to a safe place as soon as possible. - If the above Warning Signal(s) is in force during the field study, tutors and gallery staff will send participants to a safe place, the field study may be continued or cancelled depends on the weather condition. 6.
