The NEW Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is taking beds away from Seaton, Honiton and Okehampton hospitals - it has already closed beds in Axminster, Ottery St Mary and Budleigh Salterton. We have one of the oldest populations in the country, but there will be no beds in the Axe Valley. Social care is in crisis. The proposed new system to replace hospital beds has not been tried. Local doctors agree that the closure of our beds will risk patient care. The Seaton decision was flawed
In the consultation, far more people chose the option to keep Seaton’s beds than any other option – the CCG ignored this. The CCG said Sidmouth has an older population than Seaton - official figures show this is simply untrue. The CCG said Sidmouth has a larger population than Seaton – this is not true when Colyton, Axminster, etc., are taken into account.
NHS head stalls bed closures
Simon Stevens says there should be no more bed closures without hav- ing alternatives in place first ... but our CCG is ploughing ahead re- gardless.
Independents show the way
East Devon’s one Independent County Councillor, Claire Wright, got Devon’s Health Scrutiny Committee to refer the closures to the Sec- retary of State for Health unless 14 assurances are given. East De- von’s Conservative leader, Paul Diviani, voted to block this move. Come to our meeting to discuss how to save our beds - and the NHS in Devon
