The money will be used for upgrades and installation of water and sewer lines to the reopening sawmill in Glenwood. “We all understand the importance of the sawmill and the jobs it will create for Pike County and Glenwood,” said Senator Teague. “I am glad to do anything to help.” Mayor Maritn said he was appreciative and that the sawmill will be looking at 210 jobs created upon open- ing. Pratt stated that he was “pleased to be able to have a grant program provided by the state legislature and assist their 10 county region.” WCAPPD general improvement grants are available to city and county governments, as well as community groups, for community and economic development projects within the House and Senate Districts of the WCAPPD. After facing a regular season marred by as many rain outs as games played, the Kirby Trojans marched into the state playoffs with a victory in regional play -- 8-2 over Caddo Hills -- before losing 7-1 to host Taylor in the championship round. Undaunted, the Trojans came a game from the state championship contest in defeating Concord 10-1 and Mam- moth Spring 9-3 before falling to Armorel 6-1 in the semi finals at Mountain Home. The team is primarily comprised of underclassmen, including juniors 1 Spencer Jones, 25 Lance Spoo and 33 Gonzalo Caleza-Barrosa Jr., sophomores 22 Carson Smith, 7 Colton Coffman, 32 Tyler Mann, 11 Deric Putz, 12 Bo Stewart, 8 Jordan Bates and 34 Derek Vick; freshman 26 Carson Garrett and 2 Hayden Johnson. Lee Whisenhunt is the team lone graduating senior, while the team is coached by Marty Smith and assisted by Mike Putz and Jamie Johnson.
