Cardinals Notes  Adam Wainwright made his team leading third start of the season, first against the Cubs in 2014 and 23rd career start (32nd app.) vs. the Cubs (9-6)…tied , and for 10th on the Cardinals all-time wins lead with 101 victories…was 5-0 with an 0.23 ERA (39.1 IP/1 ER) in the Cardinals alternate “St. Louis” jersey (five Saturday home starts in 2013) entering today…allowed a lead-off home for the second time in his career (last: 6/14/10 vs. SEA, Ichiro Suzuki, 2nd pitch)…struck out seven or more batters for the third consecutive start this season.  Adam Wainwright tallied his 50th career vs. N.L. Central clubs (92nd overall) and is a career .243 (56-230) batter at with 22 RBI.  connected on his 20th career , coming in the second . The last Cubs lead-off home run to begin a game was David DeJesus vs. Colorado (5/15/13)…three of his eight career home runs have been hit in the 1st inning and that was his first home run on a first pitch.  Nate Schierholtz hit two doubles in a game for the 10th time in his career (last: 9/29/13 vs. STL).  Chris Rusin made his first career MLB relief appearance today following 20 starts. His 5.0 were as long as 14 of his starts in his career.  Cubs manager Ricky Renteria challenged an out-safe call at first base on Jon Jay’s hit in the 3rd inning. Call was overturned from safe to out. Renteria is 1-for-2 on challenges this series and 3-for-5 this season.  Cubs have eight hits today and six were extra bases.
