July 4, 2021 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Parishioners of St. Peter, St Joseph’s, Sacred Heart, Holy Name and the Apostolate of St. Peter’s Laverne My name is Father Cristobal De Loera Velasco, and I will be your new pastor beginning June 28th. First I want to Acknowledge Fr. Joseph Arliage’s hard work and dedication to all of you these almost 8 years that he has walked with you. I am grateful for his leadership and wish him all the best in his new assignment in Oklahoma City. I would like to share a little bit about myself. I was born on June 7, 1987 in Aguascalientes Mexico. My family moved to Oklahoma when I was ten years old. I was ordained a priest by Archbishop Paul S. Coakley on June 28, 2014. I was baptized on June 28th 1987. 27 years later to the date, I was ordained a priest. Notice that I was baptized and ordained the same date, June 28th. I studied at Conception Seminary College, (2006-2010), where I earned the degree of Bachelor of Arts with a major in philosophy. continued my theological studies at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, in Indiana (2010-2014), earning the degree of Master of Divinity. My first assignment as a priest was as an associate pastor of St. Eugenes Church in Oklahoma City, (2014-2016), and as Chaplin at Mount St. Mary High School, (2014-2020). In 2016 I was appointed associate pastor of St. James the Greater Church in Oklahoma City (2016- 2021). I have served on several advisory boards for the archdiocese and Archbishop Paul Coakley. I am currently serving on the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine Building Committee, (2019-) and I am a member of the Board of Directors for the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine, (2019-). I am also part of the priests group involved in Hispanic Ministry, and, in 2015, began assisting the Guatemalan community in Oklahoma with their spiritual needs. I enjoy playing soccer and volleyball. I like to read and listen to music. I also like to attend high school sporting events. I also enjoy visit- ing families and eating at their homes. I also like to sing. One of my favorite hobbies is birdwatching. I enjoy going fishing. One thing that I would like to learn is to go hunting. I look forward to getting to know you and walk with you on this journey of faith. Above all, with obedience, taking off my sandals, I prom- ise to pray daily for your families.
