Virginia 80, Old Dominion 76 box score
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – Sean Singletary scored six points in the waning seconds to give Virginia an 8076 victory over Old Dominion in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational on Monday.
A 3pointer by Singletary with 23 seconds left tied the score at 7575. Singletary then hit a layup and hit a free throw after a steal with four seconds left to give Virginia the lead for good at 7875.
Old Dominion (1816) had a chance to come back with three seconds left after Jonathan Adams made a free throw to cut Virginia's lead to 7876. But Adams turned the ball over and Ben Finney fouled Virginia's Calvin Baker. Baker hit two free throws to seal the win.
Singletary finished with 22 points and 10 assists. Mamadi Diane had 14 points for Virginia and Jamil Tucker scored 11.
Brian Henderson led Old Dominion with 26 points.
Virginia battled back from a 3729 halftime deficit.
Virginia (1715) will host a semifinal game in the CBI Wednesday night (March 26) at 7 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena against Bradley (1915). Bradley defeated Ohio 7973 Monday night.
